The Shipping benefit allows you to give members a better deal on delivery: either free shipping or a low flat fee for each shipment. You can offer it on every order, or limit it to certain countries, order sizes, or shipping rates.
How it works
When a member's order qualifies, the shipping offer applies automatically at checkout. Members don't need to enter a discount code.
You can choose one of two Shipping benefits for each plan:
Free shipping: Members pay nothing for shipping on qualifying orders.
Flat-rate shipping: Members pay a set fee for each shipment. The fee is a maximum, never an extra charge. If a shipping rate already costs less than your fee, members pay the lower rate. For example, with a $5 fee, an $8 rate costs members $5, and a $3 rate stays $3.
By default, your offer applies to every order and every shipping rate. You can add conditions to narrow it down, such as offering free shipping only on orders over a certain amount, or covering your standard shipping rate but not express.
At checkout
The offer applies to active members of the plan, and to customers who are joining the plan in the same order.
If an order ships in more than one shipment, the offer applies to each shipment.
Pickup isn't affected by the offer.
The discount shows on the order as Membership free shipping or Member shipping, in your checkout's language. It counts toward the member's savings.
Combining with other discounts
Member shipping combines with product and order discounts, including your plan's member discount and the signup discount.
Shopify applies only one shipping discount to an order. If another shipping discount also qualifies, such as a free shipping code or your own automatic free shipping, Shopify applies whichever saves the customer more.
Your plan's member discount has a Combine with shipping discounts setting. It decides whether that discount stacks with member shipping. If it's off, the customer gets only the better of the two.
The signup discount always combines with member shipping, so a customer who joins at checkout gets both. The Combine with other discounts setting under Signup Discount in Settings only controls product and order discounts.
To stack with member shipping, a discount you create in Shopify needs to allow combining with shipping discounts.
Setup
You can add the Shipping benefit under Configure Rewards when you create or edit a membership plan. Once the benefit is added, use the steps below to configure it.
Under Choose what members get, choose Free shipping or Flat-rate shipping.
(Flat-rate shipping only): Under Fee per shipment, choose how to set the fee:
Note: Enter fees in your store's currency. When a customer checks out in another currency, the fee is converted automatically at the current rate.
Same fee everywhere: Enter one fee for every destination.
Fee by country: Under Countries, choose the countries you want to set a fee for, then enter a fee for each one. To remove a country, click the trash icon next to it. In Everywhere else: Enter a fee for every other country. If you leave it blank, members in those countries pay your regular shipping rates.
Optional: Under When it applies, a summary shows the default settings. Click Edit conditions to change them.
(Free shipping only): Under Countries:
Choose All countries for every destination, or;
Choose Selected countries only and pick the countries where free shipping applies.
Under Order value, set the following:
Minimum requirement: Use the dropdown menu to choose one of the following options:
No minimum
Minimum order amount. Enter a minimum amount.
Minimum quantity of items. Enter a minimum quantity of items.
Maximum order amount: The offer applies to orders up to and including this amount. Leave it blank for no maximum.
(Flat-rate shipping only) If you entered a Maximum order amount, choose what members get above the maximum: Regular shipping rates or Free shipping.
Under Shipping rates:
Choose All shipping rates to cover every rate, except local delivery and pickup, or;
Choose Selected shipping rates and use the Rates field to pick specific ones.
Note: To allow Memberships to list your rates click Allow access. Shopify opens a window asking you to approve the update. If you decline, you can still add rates by typing their names (shown below), and the benefit works the same.
If you don’t see the rate you want, click Rate not listed? Add it by name and type the name customers see at checkout, such as a carrier service or local delivery
(Free shipping only) Under Only rates up to, enter the highest shipping rate you want to cover. Any rate that costs more is charged in full.
Click Save.
Important considerations
Rates are matched by name. If you rename a rate in Shopify, open the Rates list in Memberships and choose it again.
If two shipping profiles have a rate with the same name, choosing that name applies the offer to the rate in each profile.
Local delivery is only included when you choose it by name.
The offer works with Shopify shipping profiles and with Shopify Markets shipping.
