QuickBooks Sync requires that you enable taxes and choose a tax/tax agency in QuickBooks Online, even if you are not actively charging tax through your Shopify store.
Setup sales tax
- Log in to QuickBooks Online.
- Select Taxes.
- Select Edit sales tax settings.
- Under Do you charge sales tax?, select Yes.
- Select Save.
Note: If your QuickBooks Online account is registered in the US, you can set up the QuickBooks Online app in Shopify. If your QuickBooks Online account is registered in Canada, Australia, or the United Kingdom, you may need to instead manually add the tax rate. Please see Add tax rates manually below for more information.
Add tax rates manually
- Log in to QuickBooks Online.
- Select Taxes.
- Select Add/edit tax rates and agencies.
- Select New.
- Select Single tax rate or Combined tax rate.
- Complete the fields based on your selection in Step 5.
- Select Save.
Add tax agencies in QuickBooks Sync
- From the Shopify admin, select Apps.
- Select QuickBooks Sync.
- Select Settings.
- Select your preferred tax agencies.
Note: Tax Agency dropdown menus are created based on your Shopify orders. If taxes are charged to locations that have not yet been set up in QuickBooks Sync, exports stop until all of the agencies are filled.
