Dynamic Discounts Setup


With Dynamic discounts, you can offer one discount on the initial order and then automatically switch to a different discount after a set number of orders. For detailed information about this feature, visit Subscription Discounts and Dynamic Discounts in Recurring Orders.

If you have all the information you need and you're ready to set it up right now, follow these steps:

  1. From "Shopify Admin", select Apps.

  2. Select Recurring Orders & Subscriptions by Bold.

  3. Select Settings.

  4. Select Recurring Style.

  5. Select Single Product or Multiple Products cart style.

    Note: Dynamic Discounts are not compatible with Recurring Cart style.

  6. Select Subscriptions -> Subscriptions.

  7. Select Create Subscription Group.

  8. In "Step 1: Select Subscription Type", enter an Internal Subscription Name.

  9. Under "Subscription Type", select a Subscription Type.

  10. In "Step 2: Select Products", select Select products.

  11. Select ADD next to the product that is being offered on the initial order.

  13. Select the Allow Swapping of Product checkbox (optional).

  14. In "Step 3: Select Intervals", choose:
    • Let customer select order interval; or
      1. Select the recurring intervals you would like to offer.
      2. Set the maximum amount a customer can select for intervals.

    • Set a fixed order interval.
      1. Under "Orders will be processed every", enter a number.
      2. Select Day(s), Week(s), Month(s) or Year(s).
      3. If you choose weeks or months, select when you would like to charge the customers?
        • On purchase date each week (or month); or
        • Charge all customers on the same day(s) every week (or month).

  15. Under "Recurring Options", select:
    • Subscription and one time purchase; or
    • Subscription only.

  16. Under "Maximum Subscription Length" select:
    • No Limit; or
    • Set max numbers of recurring orders to.

  17. Under "Minimal Fulfilled Order Requirement", select:
    • Off; or
    • Customer can cancel after at least XX orders.
      • Enter a number.

  18. In "Step 4: Offer a Discount", select Offer different discounts on initial and recurring orders.

  19. Enter an Initial Discount.

  20. Under "Recurring Discount" Switch to XX % Off.

  21. Enter after XX order(s).

  22. Select Save.

That's it!


  • When a customer checks out with a subscription product that has an initial and recurring discount option tied to it, it creates a unique singular subscription just for that product.
  • If they have other regular subscription product(s) in their cart during checkout (in Multiple Product style), those products will be created as an additional subscription. You would most likely see a "2" beside their customer information in the app.
  • The customer will not be able to adjust product quantity, add new products to their existing subscription, or swap for another product for the particular subscription containing the initial and recurring discount. The options will be hidden from the "Manage" drop-down menu.
  • Once the automated transformation is complete, they will be able to make those changes again freely.
  • They'll still be able to edit and update their other subscriptions if applicable.
