Multi-Currency can only display currencies on your storefront and does not have the ability to convert currencies in Shopify's checkout by itself. If you have a grandfathered plan for Bold Cashier and Bold Multi-Currency installed on your store, you can offer currency conversions on the checkout page.
Please visit Cashier & Multi-Currency Integration for more information on setting up this integration.
Multi-Currency is a robust eCommerce app that provides your customers with a storefront currency selector. They're able to view how much your site's products cost in their local currency.
You're able to customize the display of the picker, add your own exchange rate or padding rules, and automatically geo-locate your customer's currency.
Using Bold Cashier, you can accept payments from your customers in foreign currencies.
Note: Other currency conversion apps or software should be disabled on your site before using Multi-Currency. Using two conversion apps at the same time can cause conflicts with how your pricing displays.
Note: As of February 19th, 2021, Bold Multi-Currency is no longer available to install on the Shopify App Store. If your store has installed our Bold Multi-Currency app prior to February 19, 2021 - you will be able to continue using this app as it is grandfathered on your store.
To set up Multi-Currency, please follow these steps:
Multi-Currency has a significant coding installation to adjust your product prices and function correctly on your storefront.
The app requires adjustments to your Shopify currency settings, along with the addition of several files and coding snippets to your theme files.
Note: If you change themes while using Multi-Currency, the app's code must be re-installed in your new theme.
Visit Multi-Currency Code Install Instructions for more information on how to install the app.
If you're not comfortable with Liquid code, please visit Request a Multi-Currency Installation and our team will be glad to assist further.
Any currency that you want to display on your storefront must be added to Multi-Currency. From there, the currencies can be enabled or disabled from the site.
The currencies you enable in the app will display in alphabetical order on your storefront currency menu.
Visit Add a Currency in Multi-Currency for more information on how to add these to the app.
Visit Enable or Disable Currencies to learn how to toggle currencies on or off from the storefront.
Your site's default currency must match the currency you designate as your default in Multi-Currency. Setting the wrong default currency may cause issues with how your product pricing displays on your site.
Visit Change the Default Currency for more information on how to select your default currency in the app.
Multi-Currency offers several different display options for where and how the picker will show on your site.
You're able to select a default location in either the left, middle, or right side of the screen. The picker can then be set to the top or bottom of your store.
You're also able to select whether it's fixed to the edge of the screen, or "floats" off of the side.
Visit Change the Placement of the Currency Picker for more information on how to change the app's location.
Depending on your storefront design, the default locations for the currency picker may not match your site's styling.
Multi-Currency provides you with the flexibility to customize the app's display and position on your storefront. You're able to change the colours, font style, as well as the direction the picker opens.
The location can also be customized to display within certain elements of your site.
Visit Customize the Multi-Currency Picker for more information on how to make these changes.
With Multi-Currency, you're able to set rounding rules for currency conversions that end in specific decimal numbers.
You can set a range of accepted numbers, then choose how the app should round these on the storefront. These rules are also created on a per-currency basis.
Note: Shopify's checkout will not process the exchange rates you attach to a currency. This is because Shopify's checkout does not read the adjustments we make to your product prices. Visit Cashier & Multi-Currency Integration to process orders using custom rounding rules.
Visit Create Rounding Rules for a Currency for more information on how to set these rules.
Visit Test Rounding Rules in Multi-Currency for more information on how to test these rules.
Multi-Currency allows you to set custom exchange rates for each of the currencies you offer to your customers.
By default, the app will pull its exchange rates from Open Exchange Rates every two hours. However, you can set custom exchange rules on a per-currency basis.
You're also able to use exchange rate padding to include additional conversion costs for a specific currency.
Note: Shopify's checkout will not process the exchange rates you attach to a currency. This is because Shopify's checkout does not read the adjustments we make to your product prices. Visit Cashier & Multi-Currency Integration to process orders using custom exchange rates.
Visit Use Your Own Exchange Rate for more information on how to set a custom exchange rate.
Visit Add Exchange Rate Padding for more information on how to set exchange rate padding.
Multi-Currency offers an IP-based geolocation service that can display a customer's local currency when they visit your site.
The app reads your customers IP address, then displays your store in their country's currency. In the off-chance that it's unable to read their IP correctly, the app will display the store's default currency.
After enabling the geo-location service, some customers choose to hide their currency picker from the storefront as well.
Visit Use the Customer's Location to Automatically Set the Currency for more information on how to enable this feature.
Visit Hide the Currency Picker to learn how to hide the picker on your site.
When using Multi-Currency in combination with Bold Cashier, it provides you with the ability to accept payments from your customers in foreign currencies.
They're able to select their currency from the picker, add their desired products to the cart, and pay with their local currency.
This integration will also accept any rounding rules or custom exchange rates you set within the app.
Note: Cashier requires an attached payment gateway for each of the currencies you wish to accept payments in.
Visit Cashier & Multi-Currency Integration to learn how to enable this integration.
