Passwordless Login in Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout

Passwordless login in Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout reduces customer friction by allowing your customers to manage their subscriptions in the customer portal without the need to create an account or remember a password.

Functionality 

Passwordless login provides your customers with a one-time access link via email so they can access the customer portal to manage their subscriptions.

Customers do not need to create an account or remember a password. They can simply enter their email address and click Get one time login link from the passwordless login page. An email with an access link is sent to your customer immediately and expires after 15 minutes. This email can be customized with your preferred text and information.

You can provide access to the passwordless login page in your choice of two locations: through a storefront manage subscription link (you need to place this link manually), or you can replace your storefront customer account login with the passwordless login option. 

Enable passwordless login from a storefront manage subscription link

This option provides access to the passwordless login page through a storefront manage subscription link. This requires that you manually add the customer portal link to your main menu or footer menu.

Example

To enable passwordless login from a storefront link, please follow the steps below.

Step 1: Enable passwordless login in Bold Subscriptions

1. From within Bold Subscriptions navigate to Settings > Customer Portal.
2. In the Admin customer portal link section, enter your customer portal link.

   Note: If you are using the default setup, the link will be pages/manage-subscriptions. This can be different if you’ve customized your customer portal page name. You don’t need to enter your store URL, only the path to your customer portal page.

   
3. In the Customer permissions section, enable the Customer can access customer portal using passwordless login setting by sliding the toggle to the right.
4. Navigate to Settings > Email settings and slide the toggle to the right to enable the Passwordless Login for Subscription Management email if it is not already enabled.
   
5. Optional: Select the ellipsis to the right of the email to edit the text as desired.

Step 2: Add a manage subscription link to your storefront

1. From within Shopify, navigate to Online Store > Navigation.
2. In the Menus section, select a menu of your choice.
3. Click Add menu item.
   
4. In the search field, select Pages and select your customer portal page.

   Note: By default the customer portal page is titled Manage Subscriptions, but yours may be different if you have renamed it.

   
5. Select Save menu.

Replace the Shopify customer account login with passwordless login

This option redirects your customer away from the storefront customer account login to the passwordless login page.

Alert: With this option, your customers will have access to their subscriptions in the customer portal, but they won’t have access to their full (Shopify) customer account. This option is best for stores that sell subscriptions exclusively.

A code snippet is added to your live theme when activated. If you update or change your theme in the future, you need to deactivate and reactivate the Replace storefront account login with passwordless manage subscription page setting so that the snippet is added to your new theme.

To replace the storefront customer login with the passwordless login, please follow the steps below.

1. From within Bold Subscriptions navigate to Settings > Customer Portal.
2. In the Admin customer portal link section, enter your customer portal link.

   Note: If you are using the default setup, the link will be pages/manage-subscriptions. This can be different if you’ve customized your customer portal page name. You don’t need to enter your store URL, only the path to your customer portal page.

   
3. In the Customer permissions section, slide the toggle to the right to enable the following two settings:
   1. Customer can access customer portal using passwordless login
   2. Replace storefront account login with passwordless manage subscription page
4. Navigate to Settings > Email settings and slide the toggle to the right to enable the Passwordless Login for Subscription Management email if it is not already enabled.
   
5. Optional: Select the ellipsis next to the email to edit the text as desired.
