By default, the Bold Checkout URL is cashier.boldcommerce.com/checkout. This is displayed in the address bar to your customers when in the checkout. If you would like to display your store name in the address bar, you can either add your store name to the end of the checkout URL by changing the checkout alias or set a custom hostname in Bold Checkout.
Change the checkout alias
Changing the URL alias in Bold Checkout allows you to add your store's name to the end of the default checkout URL. This displays as https://cashier.boldcommerce.com/checkout/your-store-name.
- To change the checkout alias, please follow the steps below.
- From within Bold Checkout, navigate to Settings > General settings.
- Scroll down to the Custom checkout hostname settings section.
- In the Default URL Address field, enter your alias.
- Click Save URL Alias.
Set a custom checkout hostname
Alert: Using a custom hostname requires changing your DNS settings with your domain provider. If you are not comfortable with DNS settings, avoid using this feature as it can result in lost store access. Once saved in Bold Checkout, the field is locked and you will need to contact our Customer Success team for further changes. If you are not able to add a custom hostname, you can change the checkout alias using the above instructions instead.
If you would rather display your store's URL in the checkout address bar, you can add a custom hostname URL into Bold Checkout.
Adding a custom hostname URL can only be done by adding a CNAME domain type into Bold Checkout. Only CNAME domain types can be used at this time.
To add a custom hostname into Bold Checkout, please follow the steps below.
1. Enable the setting in Bold Checkout
- From within Bold Checkout, navigate to Settings > General settings.
- Scroll down to the Custom checkout hostname settings section.
- Enable the Custom Hostname setting and take note of the address provided by the app.
Note: The address should begin with custom-hostname-01/02 or something similar.
2. Change your DNS settings
Alert: These instructions are relevant to GoDaddy. Other domain name providers may have different navigations.
- Go to the Settings area of your domain name provider.
- Navigate to the DNS Management section.
- Select Create New DNS Record.
Note: Double check that the DNS record you're creating is a CNAME.
- The Host area will use your subdomain name. For example, if you are using checkout.domain.com, make the host checkout.
Note: Your custom hostname needs to be a CNAME/subdomain (checkout.domain.com, checkout.subdomain.com, etc.).
- Enter the address that was provided to you by Bold Checkout in the Points To section (this should be custom-hostname-01/02 or something similar).
- Leave the TTL area at the default setting.
- Save the DNS record.
3. Save your custom hostname in Bold Checkout
- From within Bold Checkout, navigate to Settings > General settings.
- Scroll down to the Custom checkout hostname settings section.
- Paste your custom hostname in the Custom Checkout Hostname field.
- Click Save Hostname Settings.
Note: You cannot change your custom hostname settings once they are saved.
- Checkout will then notify you whether or not this was successful.
Note: This can take up to 48 hours before the change is reflected on your storefront.
4. Reach out to Bold with a support request
Once steps 1-3 are complete, reach out to our Customer Success team with a request to activate the custom domain.
