How many different pricing tiers can I create with Custom Pricing?

This depends on which method you are using in Custom Pricing. With the Variant method, you can create as many pricing tiers as Shopify's 100 variant per product rule will allow. With the Draft Order method, these pricing tiers are unlimited.

By default, the Draft Orders method is supplied on new installs of Custom Pricing, for detailed information on the different methods, visit Discount Methods in Custom Pricing. To switch, visit Switch Discount Methods in Custom Pricing.

With the variant method, the app will create variants at the discount specified, based on the number of regular, pre-existing variants on the selected product and the number of tiers you have created. Each pricing tier will create one variant for every regular variant already created on the product.

For Example:

If you have a v-neck t-shirt with three regular variants:

  • Small
  • Medium
  • Large

And you create special pricing for two tiers, gold and silver. Custom Pricing will create gold and silver versions of those variants, like this:

  • Small
  • Medium
  • Large
  • Small (silver)
  • Medium (silver)
  • Large (silver)
  • Small (gold)
  • Medium (gold)
  • Large (gold)

There are now nine variants, three regular and six additional ones created by Custom Pricing. Shopify's variant limit allows for 91 additional variants on this product.

In this example, the store owner would be able to have 32 price tiers. This would constitute three regular, Shopify created variants and 96 Custom Pricing variants (three for the regular pricing and three for each of the 32 price tiers) for a total of 99 variants. Any variant that would put the variant total of a product over 100 wouldn't be created.
