Create a Post Purchase Offer

Upsell works with Shopify's checkout to give you the ability to create post-purchase cross-sells. You can also offer a discount with this type of offer.

If your customer accepts the offer, the offer is processed in the same transaction as the original purchase without the need for your customer to re-enter their payment information.

This article will guide you, step-by-step, on how to properly create a Post Purchase offer.

Step 1: Enable Bold Upsell in Shopify's checkout settings

  1. In the Shopify admin, navigate to Settings > Checkout.
  2. Scroll down to the Post-purchase page section, and select Bold Upsell.

  3. Click Save.

Step 2: Create the offer in Upsell

  1. In Bold Upsell, navigate to Manual Offers, and click Create New Offer.
  2. Enter an internal name for your offer.
  3. Click Set a trigger.
  4. Ensure the Trigger Preset field is set to Custom Upsell Trigger.
  5. Expand the Trigger location dropdown menu, and select Post purchase Pop-up.

    Note: If a warning appears, you can dismiss it if you have already completed step 1 and 2 as shown above.

  6. Under Trigger products, select one of the two options:
    1. Trigger an upsell on specific products: This allows you to select specific products to act as the trigger product. If this option is selected, proceed to step #7.
    2. Trigger an upsell on every product: This sets all the products on your store as a trigger for the offer. If this option is selected, skip to step #10.
  7. Click Select Products, and select your products, variants or collection you would like to trigger.
  8. Click Review Selection, then Save Selection.
  9. Optional: Enter a Trigger quantity.

    Note: This is the minimum number of selected products the customer must have in their cart in order for the offer to display.

  10. Click Set An Offer.
  11. Select a Title and Description using the dropdown menus.

    Note: Custom Titles and Descriptions are not available for this option due to Shopify's App Requirements.

  12. Click Select Products, and select your products, variants or collection you would like to offer. 

    Note: Only one offer product can be shown in this offer type. If you select more than one, only the first will be shown. For ease of viewing, it is recommended to a choose product with 10 or fewer variants as they will display in a single drop down.

  13. Click Review Selection, then Save Selection.
  14. Optional: Enable Offer customers an after checkout discount.

    Note: This allows you to enter a discount by percent: % or fixed amount: $.

  15. Optional: Click Set date range and enter your Start and End date.
  16. Optional: Click Set cart price and enter a Min and Max cart value.
  17. Optional: Enable any of the Additional Options.
  18. Click Save Offer.

 


 

Post Purchase offer FAQs

Can I translate or customize the message in the Post Purchase offer?

No, custom titles and descriptions are not available for Post Purchase offers due to Shopify's app requirements. Instead, you can pick from a of variety of titles and descriptions provided in a dropdown menu when creating your offer.

 

Can I customize the thank-you message that appears after a Post Purchase offer?

No, this page is controlled entirely by Shopify and as a result cannot be accessed by Upsell for changes.
