Upsell integrates with Bold Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout to help you create unique offers that help to both increase your average order value and lifetime customer value.
This article provides an overview of the offers you can create when both Bold Upsell and Bold Subscriptions are installed on your store.
Upsell a subscription
You can convert one-time purchases into subscriptions by suggesting customers upgrade to a subscription when they add a one-time purchase product to the cart.
With this type of offer, the product will act as both the trigger and the offer in Upsell. This allows you to show the Subscription offer (along with any subscription discounts for incentive) when your customer chooses the one-time purchase option.

Customer Portal Upsells
Customer Portal Upsells work alongside Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout to allow you to show product offers to your existing subscribers in the subscription customer portal.
Customers can add the product to their existing subscription order as either a one-time purchase or a recurring order, based on the purchase options you've made available for that product.

Subscription Email Upsells
Subscription Email Upsells work with Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout to allow you to send product offers to your existing subscribers in the Upcoming Order email notification available in Bold Subscriptions.
Your customers can accept the offer by clicking the Add to Order button in the email. This directs them to the product offer in the customer portal where they can add it to their upcoming order as a one-time purchase or a recurring order, depending on how you offer the product on your store.

Offer one-time purchases with subscription orders
You can create cross-sell offers to show one-time purchase products to customers who are in the process of buying a subscription on your storefront. You can create this offer as a cross-sell using any of the following offer types depending on your preference:
- Create a Cross-sell Offer
- Create a Shopify Post Purchase Offer
- Create a Cart Drawer Offer
- Create an In-Checkout Offer
Important considerations
While you can convert one-time purchases to subscriptions using the Upsell a subscription feature, it’s important to note that the one-time product must be the same product as the subscription product. You can’t create cross-sell offers for different subscription products outside of the Customer Portal Upsell and Subscription Email Upsell.
If a different subscription product is used as a cross-sell offer anywhere else on the storefront and your customer accepts it, it will register as a one-time purchase only. The subscription information does not get passed to the cart. In addition, It will appear as though it was added to the cart successfully, however, the product will not be added to the cart.
If a subscription product is used in a Post Purchase offer, the subscription product may be displayed as free. However, if your customer adds the product, the product is not added to their order.
