Prevent an Out of Stock Product from being Added to the Cart

Product Options premium can prevent a product that is linked to an option selection from being added to the cart, if the linked product doesn't have any stock in it.

When this functionality is turned on and the product is out of stock, a message will display on the screen informing the user that the option product is out of stock. The user will be prevented from adding anything to the cart.

Note: This is a Premium feature. Visit Change Your Price Plan in Product Options for more information on how to upgrade.

To enable this, please follow these steps:

  1. From Shopify's admin, select Apps.

    Select the Apps option on the left-hand side of your Shopify admin

  2. Select Product Options by Bold.

    Select Product Options by Bold from your list of apps

  3. Select Settings.

    From the Product Options navigation bar, select Settings

  4. Select Display Settings.

    From the Settings dropdown menu, select Display Settings at the very top

  5. Scroll down to "Inventory Checking", and select the Enable inventory checking checkbox.

    Scroll down to the seventh section, Inventory Checking, and select the Enable inventory checking checkbox

  6. Enter an Out of stock message.

    In the left-hand textbox, enter an out-of-stock message for customers to see

  7. Enter a Not enough inventory for order message.

    In the right-hand textbox, enter a not-enough-inventory message for customers to see

  8. Select Save.

    At the very bottom-right corner, select Save
