Both Braintree Credit Card or Braintree PayPal are supported in Bold Checkout. Both options allow you to accept credit cards, however, Braintree PayPal allows you to place a PayPal button on your store to offer a simple user experience and Braintree Credit Card offers an integrated user experience.
Braintree Credit Card also supports Google Pay and Apple Pay and supports SCA compliance for European merchants.

Availability
Braintree is available to merchants operating in the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe, Singapore, Hong Kong SAR China, Malaysia, and New Zealand and supports over 130 currencies. For a full list of available countries and regions, please visit Braintree.
Credentials
To connect Braintree to Bold Checkout, you need to enter your Braintree credentials. Below is a list of the required credentials and where to find them in your Braintree account.
- Merchant ID: Gear > Business > Merchant Accounts
- Public Key: Gear > API > Keys > API Keys
- Private Key: Gear > API > Keys > API Keys > View
- Tokenization Key: Gear > API > Keys > Tokenization Keys
- Merchant Account ID: Gear > Business > Merchant Accounts

Setup
- From within the Bold Checkout admin, navigate to Payment options > Payment gateways.
- In the Connect a payment gateway section, expand the Alternative payment gateway menu.
- Click Connect next to Braintree Credit Card or Braintree PayPal.
- Enter your credentials.
- Click Save.
Note: To enable Apple Pay and Google Pay, please see the relevant instructions in the sections below.
- Optional: Click the ellipsis next to Braintree, and select Edit credentials to access the following additional options:
- Optional: Enable 3D Secure
- Optional: Enable Fastlane by PayPal.
Note: Fastlane is available for Bold-hosted Checkout and Bold Booster for PayPal only. For more information, please visit Fastlane by PayPal.
- Optional: Click Style Fastlane to access the Advanced Style Settings.

- Optional: Click Style Fastlane to access the Advanced Style Settings.
- Click Save.
Enable Apple Pay via Braintree Credit Card
Alert: Apple Pay is not available with Bold Booster for PayPal.
To enable Apple Pay with your Braintree Credit Card account, please follow the steps below.
1. Register your product domain name in the Braintree Control Panel
- Log into your production Control Panel.
- Click the gear icon in the top right corner.
- Select Processing from the dropdown menu.
- Scroll to the Payment Methods section.
- Next to Apple Pay, select the Options link.
- Scroll to the Web Domains (Safari) section.
- Click the +Add link to the right.
- Enter the fully qualified production domain name of your checkout.
Note: The value you enter must match your fully qualified domain name exactly–including the www. if applicable.
- Click Agree & Add Domain.
2. Edit your credentials and settings in Bold Checkout
- Navigate to Bold Checkout, and select Payment options > Payment gateways.
- Find your connected Braintree gateway and select the ellipses, then Edit Credentials.
- Check the Apple Pay box.
- Select Save.
Enable Google Pay via Braintree Credit Card
Alert: Google Pay is not available with Bold Booster for PayPal.
To enable Google Pay with your Braintree Credit Card account, please follow the steps below.
1. Enable Google Pay in the Braintree Control Panel
- Log into your production Control Panel.
- Select the gear icon in the top right corner.
- Select Processing from the dropdown menu.
- Scroll to the Payment Methods section.
- Select the toggle next to Google Pay to turn it on.
2. Edit your credentials in Bold Checkout
- Navigate to Bold Checkout, and select Payment Options > Payment Gateways.
- Find your connected Braintree gateway and select the ellipses, then Edit Credentials.
- Add your Merchant ID under Google Pay.
Note: To find your Google Pay Merchant ID, navigate to your Payments Profile, then select Settings. It is listed under Public Merchant Profile.
- Select Save.
SCA compliance
SCA enables 3DS 2.0 so European Merchants can be compliant with the SCA directive.
- Within Bold Checkout, select Payment Gateways.
- Select Edit on Braintree.
- Enable the 3D Secure Toggle.
- Select Save.
Test Braintree
To test the Braintree solution, you can use test card credentials in a sandbox account. To set this up, please follow the instructions outlined in Braintree's documentation.
