Add Google Maps API to Store Locator


Store Locator requires a Google Maps API key to function. This requires a project be created, and billing is enabled. It is quick to set up, and the API key is how your store makes requests to Google for things like address lookups.

To create the API key, you will need a Google account:

  • If you have a Gmail email address, you have a Google account.
  • If you need a Google account, visit Google Account Signup.

To create an API key and add it to Store Locator, please follow these steps:

  1. Log into the Google Maps Platform Console.
  2. Select Get Started.

  4. Select Continue.

  5. Enter a new project name.

  6. Select Yes on Google's Terms of Service.

  7. Select Next.

  8. Select Create Billing Account.

  9. Select your Country.

  10. Select I have read and agree to the Google Cloud Platform Free Trial Terms of Service.

  11. Select Yes or No to receive email updates.

  12. Select Agree and Continue.

  13. Enter your billing information, then select Start My Free Trial.

    Note: Google Cloud accounts require you to enter additional payment information for the API to work correctly. When you enable billing, Google provides you with $300 of free usage every month for Maps, Routes, or Places. Visit Add, remove, or update a payment method (links to Google) for more information on setting up billing for Google Cloud Services.

  14. Select Next.

  15. Copy your API Key.

    Note: You can also select the "Copy to clipboard" button.

  22. From Shopify's admin, select Apps.

  26. Paste the Google API Key you copied in Step 15.
