Set up Your Payment Gateway with Bold Subscriptions

Follow

When your customers subscribe to a product in your store, they are taken to a special recurring checkout which captures their payment information for that subscription. To do this, we need a payment gateway to store that information safely and securely.

To set this up, please follow these steps:

  1. From Shopify's admin, select Apps.

    Select Apps

  2. Select Recurring Orders & Subscriptions by Bold.

  3. Select Settings, then Payment Gateway.

    Select Settings/Payment Gateway

  4. Navigate to one of the Supported Payment Gateways and set up an account.

Note: Stripe and BrainTree are our recommended gateways. They are the ones that have been tested most extensively with Subscriptions.

  5. Back in the app select Connect to Stripe (as an option).

Note: Steps will vary depending on the selected gateway.

That's it! At this point, we highly recommend processing a test subscription with a real credit card to ensure everything has been set up correctly.

  • Hi David!

Thanks for getting in touch with us. We're glad to hear you're loving the app!

If you're switching payment gateways from one Authorize.Net account to another Authorize.Net account, the switch is as simple as updating your credentials (i.e. inputting your new keys) in your Bold Subscriptions app under `Settings > Payment Gateways > Other Payment Gateways > Click here for alternate payment gateways`. You may be prompted with a warning, but feel free to click `Okay` to move on to the next step. The warning is there as in some instances switching payment gateways in the app may require a few additional steps with which our support team can help. The change from one Authorize.Net account to another should be relatively straightforward though, so you're in luck!

One last thing to note, is that any refunds for orders processed through the outdated Authorize.Net account can no longer be processed through the Bold Subscriptions app.

If you have any further questions or concerns that you'd like to go over with our support team before switching gateways, feel free to reach out to us at support@boldcommerce.com. We're always happy to help with whatever it may be!

    Cheers,

  • Hey Ben!

Thanks so much for reaching out :) Unfortunately if your current gateway provider is not listed as one of our supported payment gateways, you won't be able to natively connect them to Bold Subscriptions.

However, we're always looking for ways to improve our products and would love to hear which gateway you want to connect to the app! If you drop a line to our Support team they'll be glad to pass this information along to our developers to see if this is something we could include in a future update.

If you'd like to pursue a custom integration just for your site, I would suggest reaching out to our Custom Solutions team to see if this is something they could integrate specifically for your store :)

Please let us know if you have any further questions from here and we'll be more than happy to assist!

    Cheers,

  • We have been running Bold Subscriptions for over a year now(and love it) but we need to generate a new transaction key in Authorize.net

How do I update my transaction key in Bold?

  • Hi, if we use Stripe as a payment gateway, how do we set it up so customers can pay at the checkout page and not redirect them to another page? We want to lessen customer's steps in purchasing. Thanks.

  • Hey Whitney!

Thanks so much for reaching out :) By default, Subscriptions will use a checkout page to process your customers' orders. None of these orders can be paid for without your customers completing the checkout process.

However, the checkout that Subscriptions uses is completely separate from your Shopify checkout. When your customers go to pay for a subscription, they will be redirected to our checkout to ensure that we can capture the payment, create a recurring charge, and generate a recurring order in your Shopify admin.

Please let us know if you have any further questions from here (support@boldcommerce.com) and our team will be more than happy to assist!

    Cheers,
