Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout integrates with Bold Upsell to help you create unique offers that help to both increase your average order value and lifetime customer value. With both apps together, you can create the following types of offers:

  • Convert one-time purchases into subscriptions.
  • Show product offers to your existing subscribers in the customer portal.
  • Email product offers to existing subscribers in the Subscription Upcoming Order email.
  • Offer one-time purchase products to your customers when they are purchasing a subscription on the storefront.

This article provides an overview of the offers you can create with the integration between Bold Upsell and Bold Subscriptions and outlines some important considerations.

Convert one-time purchases into subscriptions

You can create an offer to convert customers who are looking to purchase a product one-time by suggesting they upgrade to a subscription when they go to add the product to the cart on the product page.

With this type of offer, the product must belong to a subscription group in Bold Subscriptions with both one-time and recurring purchase options. In Upsell, the same product will act as the trigger and the offer. This allows you to show the Subscription offer if your customer chooses the one-time purchase option.

For step-by-step instructions on how to create this offer, please visit Create a Convert to Subscription Offer.

Create customer portal offers

Subscription Customer Portal offers work alongside Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout to allow you to show product offers to your existing subscribers in the customer portal.

From within the customer portal, your customers can add the product to their existing subscription order as either a one-time purchase or a recurring order, depending on how you offer the product on your store.

For step-by-step instructions on how to create this offer, please visit Create a Subscription Customer Portal Offers.

Create Subscription Upcoming Order Email offers

Subscription Upcoming Order Email offers work with Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout to allow you to send product offers to your existing subscribers in the Upcoming Order email notification available in Bold Subscriptions.

Your customers can accept the offer by clicking the Add to Order button in the email. This directs them to the product offer in the customer portal where they can add it to their upcoming order as a one-time purchase or a recurring order, depending on how you offer the product on your store.

For step-by-step instructions on how to create this offer, please visit Create a Subscription Upcoming Order Email Offer.

Offer one-time purchases with subscription orders

You can create cross-sell offers to show one-time purchase products to customers who are in the process of buying a subscription on your storefront. This helps increase your average order value.

You can create this offer as a cross-sell using any of the following instructions depending on your preference:

Important considerations

While you can convert one-time purchases to subscriptions using the Upsell feature, it’s important to note that the one-time product must be the same product as the subscription product. You can’t create cross-sell offers for different subscription products outside of the Customer Portal offer.

If a different subscription product is used as a cross-sell offer anywhere on the storefront and your customer accepts it, it will register as a one-time purchase only. The subscription information does not get passed to the cart. In addition, It will appear as though it was added to the cart successfully, however, the product will not be added to the cart.

If a subscription product is used in a Post Purchase offer, the subscription product may be displayed as free. However, if your customer adds the product, the product is not added to their order.
