The recurring order and subscription related text that appears in the Shopify checkout can be customized in your default theme content settings.
This article shows you how to access, filter, and edit the text found in these settings.

Default theme content
Using your default theme content settings, you can update the subscriptions related language in your checkout such as the recurring orders tooltip, subtotal, checkout field errors, the thank-you page manage your subscription title, description, button label, and more.

Edit the default theme content
To find and edit the relevant settings, please follow the steps below.
- In your Shopify admin, navigate to Sales channels > Online Store > Themes.
- Next to the relevant theme, click the ellipsis and select Edit default theme content.
Note: It’s best to create a backup copy before making changes to your default theme settings.
- In the Filter items search field, enter recurring, subscription, or subscriptions, and click search to find the terms related to subscriptions.
- Enter your desired text into the relevant fields.
Note: Avoid removing any merge fields (shown as text wrapped in curly brackets, such as {{ count }}). These fields populate values relevant to each customer’s order.
- Click Save.
