Create a Product Shuffle Group

This feature is only available on the Advanced plan tier. Please contact our Merchant Success team once you've upgraded your plan. There are some adjustments required on our end to enable certain features of the Advanced plan.

Bold Subscriptions gives you the flexibility to set up subscription boxes that will automatically rotate products in and out of a customer's subscription.

The app uses a collection of products to build your customer's subscription order, then sends it to them at the pre-determined intervals. This feature is a great way to offer mystery box-style subscriptions.

Note: This feature requires Bold Cashier to function correctly. Please visit Get Started with Bold Cashier for more information on how to set up Cashier.

To create a Product Shuffle group, please follow each of these steps:

First, you'll need to create a container product that your customers will subscribe to on the storefront.

The container product holds all of the customer's subscription information. The Product Shuffle group essentially uses this item as the "box" for your subscription.

To create your container product, please follow these steps:

  1. From Shopify's admin, select Products.

    Select Products

  2. Select Add product.

    Select Add Product

  3. Enter a Title.

    Enter Product Title

  4. Enter a Description (optional).

    Enter Description

  5. Select Upload image (optional).

    Select Upload Image

  6. Enter a Price.

Note: This will be the price of your subscription box.

    Enter Product Price

  7. Under "Inventory settings", select Don't track inventory.

Note: Subscriptions will track the inventory of each product contained in the Product Shuffle group. The inventory of the container product is irrelevant.

    Select Don't Track Inventory

  8. Select your Shipping settings.

Note: If you're using weight-based shipping rates, you'll need to approximate the weight of your entire subscription box. Subscriptions will use the weight of this product to determine your shipping costs; not the weight of each item in the order.

    Select Shipping Settings

  9. Select Add Variant (optional).

Note: This step is required if any of the products in your box contain specific variants. Product Shuffle will match the customer's selected variant, on this product, with any products in the box that contain the same variant name. For example: You sell a clothing box as your "mystery box"; the customer only wants to receive large t-shirts; they select the "large" variant of this product; Product Shuffle then matches this with all the large variant t-shirts you select in Step 3.

    Select Add Variant

  10. Select Save product.

    Select Save Product

That's it!

Next, you'll need to create the subscription group. This will determine your subscription intervals and how long your customers will be subscribed.

    Select Allow Swapping of Products

  11. Under "Select Intervals", choose either:
    • "Let customer select order interval"
      1. Select the intervals you would like to offer.

Note: You must select at least one interval: day, week, month, and/or year.

        Select Intervals

      2. Enter a Maximum Interval Length.

Note: This is the maximum interval a customer can select and it will show as a drop-down before the time length (ex. Ship every 2 months).

        Select Max Interval Length

    • "Set a fixed order interval"
      1. Under orders will be processed every, enter a number.
      2. Select Day(s), Week(s), Month(s), or Year(s).

Note: If you select monthly or weekly, you can choose a particular day to charge customers or you can charge them on the anniversary of their purchase date.

        Select Fixed Order Interval

  12. Select Subscription only.

    Select Subscription Only

  13. Under "Maximum Subscription Length", select either:
    • "No Limit" - the subscription will continue until it is canceled.
    • "Set max number of recurring orders to" - lets you specify how long the subscription will last. Selecting, this allows you to add an ongoing option, and to enable customers to prepay for subscriptions if selected.

      Set Max Subscription Length

  14. Under "Minimal Fulfilled Order Requirement", select either:
    • "Off"; or
    • "Customer can cancel after at least XX orders."

      Select Offer Discounts

  16. Select Save.

    Select Save

That's it!

From here, you'll need to tag the products you want to offer in the Product Shuffle group and create a smart collection of these items.

The smart collection will become the products you want to offer in the Product Shuffle group, and tagging them will pull them all into one collection.

Please follow these steps to tag your products and create a smart collection:

  9. Enter a Description (optional).

    Enter Collection Description

  10. Under "Conditions", select Product tag is equal to.

Note: You'll want to leave the collection type as "Automated". This will auto-populate the collection as you tag more items.

    Select Collection Conditions

  11. Enter the product tag you created in Step 3.

    Enter Product Tag

  12. Select Save.

Note: After creating the collection you'll have the option to "sort" the products. The order in which you sort these products is the order in which they will be shipped. For example: Your products are sorted B, C, and A; there's only 1 item sent per order; the first product sent would be B, then C, and then A.

    Select Save
