This guide answers several common questions regarding Custom Pricing's tags feature.

A customer should not have more than one customer pricing tag applied to them at once. The app will recognize both tags that are added to the customer, and switch the prices between these two tags at random.

If you want to change the price group a customer falls into, remove the customer pricing tag assigned to them and add the new tag.

To prevent a tag from working for a particular customer pricing group, the discount for that tag should be set to 0.

This can be done when creating or editing your product pricing groups:

If you're using "fixed prices" as your discounting method, please leave this field blank instead. Entering a value of 0 will actually provide a 100% discount in this case. 

With the variant method, Custom Pricing will create variants for each of the pricing tags you generate within the app. These variants are created relative to the selected products and number of tags you have generated in the app. The discounts you've associated with each of the tags are then applied to each of the variants.

Note: This limitation is only relevant if you're utilizing the Variant Method (Version 1) of Custom Pricing.

Ex: You have a T-shirt with three regular variants:

  • Small
  • Medium
  • Large

You create special pricing for two tiers (tags), "gold" and "silver". Custom Pricing will create gold and silver versions of those variants, like this:

  • Small
  • Medium
  • Large
  • Small (silver)
  • Medium (silver)
  • Large (silver)
  • Small (gold)
  • Medium (gold)
  • Large (gold)

There are now 9 variants; 3 regular, and 6 additional ones created by Custom Pricing. Shopify's variant limit allows for 91 additional variants on this product.

In this example, the store owner would be able to have 32 price tiers. This would constitute 3 regular, Shopify created variants, and 96 Custom Pricing variants (3 for the regular pricing and 3 for each of the 32 price tiers) for a total of 99 variants. Any variant that would put the variant total of a product over 100 wouldn't be created.

If you remove a tag from a customer, that customer will no longer have access to the pricing tier associated with that tag. When they log into their customer account, they'll see the products' regular prices like any other customer.

When a customer account is auto-tagged, all other tags applied to the customer account by the Custom Pricing app will be removed. Any tags not created with the app will remain.

Auto-tag rules can be ranked in priority. If the new tag ranks higher than the older one, the new one will replace the older tag. If the new tag ranks lower than the old tag, the new tag doesn't get applied:

Tag Priorities

Auto-tagging based on historical order amounts, and dollars spent, should apply retroactively and tag their account some time the next morning. There's a batch that runs every 24 hours on our end to determine this.

Auto-tagging based on purchased product(s) will not apply retroactively and should apply the tag to your customer's account roughly one-to-several minutes after the associated product is purchased.
