This article will highlight which credentials you need from your gateway to connect it to Cashier, along with any other important details you may need to know during the set-up process.

Note: Most of gateways run on Spreedly's card processing technologies. Visit Spreedly - Supported Countries for more information on which gateway(s) may work for your region.

Locating your Account Credentials

Here's where you can find your credentials in your Braintree dashboard:

Note: If you don't have a merchant account, you will need to create one to be able to accept payments through Cashier.

  • Merchant ID: Gear > Business > Merchant Accounts
  • Public Key: Gear > API > Keys > API Keys
  • Private Key: Gear > API > Keys > API Keys > View
  • Tokenization Key: Gear > API > Keys > Tokenization Keys
  • Merchant Account ID: Gear > Business > Merchant Accounts

Braintree has a few different types of error messages:

  • Gateway Rejections: A gateway rejection is when a payment is rejected due to settings set up on your payment gateway (AVS, CVV, Fraud).
  • Decline Reasons: A decline is when the customer's bank has rejected the transaction (insufficient funds, incorrect card number).

Troubleshooting

PayPal Button not Showing up at Checkout:

There are a few reasons why the PayPal button isn't showing up on checkout.

  • Your Braintree account has not been approved yet. Please wait until Braintree has approved your account and try again.
  • Your merchant account that has been set up in Braintree is not set to accept PayPal. To resolve this, sign into your Braintree admin and navigate to Business > Merchant Accounts. From here, see if the associated merchant account has PayPal as an accepted payment method. If it does not, you will need to create a new merchant account.

    Braintree-Paypal.png

  • You do not have a Braintree PayPal gateway connected to Cashier for the currency you have selected. You will either need to select a different currency, or create a new merchant account.

Additional/Important Information

  • Braintree & PayPal Integration:
    • You will need to make sure you choose Braintree PayPal as the payment gateway. Please visit Set up PayPal via Braintree for more information.
    • When creating a merchant account to connect to Cashier, you will need to make sure that the account accepts PayPal.
  • Braintree & Multi-Currency Integration:
    • Each merchant account can only accept one currency at a time. If a transaction is processed through a merchant account using a different currency, the customer will be charged an incorrect amount.
    • You will also need to have a merchant account for each currency you want to accept PayPal through.
    • Please visit Using Braintree with Multi-Currency for additional information on this integration
  • Braintree can take 7-10 business days to approve an account. You may have access to your Braintree admin during that time, but you will not be able to accept payments until the account has been approved.
  • Our integration with Braintree PayPal does not support PayPal Express or One-Click checkout.
