Connect a Payment Gateway to Bold Subscriptions V1

Overview

Bold Subscriptions V1 integrates with different payment gateways to connect with to accept payments. Each payment gateway has various benefits, and we strongly suggest investigating each gateway to see which will best support your business.

The Bold recurring checkout requires a gateway be attached in order to safely and securely capture your customers payments.

 Caution

Shopify Payments (powered by Stripe) accounts are currently incompatible with Bold Subscriptions V1. A standard Stripe account would be created if wanting to use a payment gateway. This is because Subscriptions uses a built-in checkout that is independent from the Shopify checkout.

 


 

Supported Payment Gateways

Below is the list of payment gateways that are currently integrated with Bold Subscriptions V1. To see which payment gateways will work best for your country, please see Spreedly - Payment Gateways by Country, or click on the company names mentioned below.

 Caution

Note: The CVV/CVC required setting in your payment gateway must be disabled because our app only sends CVV/CVC on the initial recurring order, not subsequent orders. Disabling this will prevent your recurring orders from being declined by your payment gateway.

Our preferred payment gateway providers with Bold Subscriptions V1 are Stripe, or Braintree

Stripe is our preferred payment gateway provider, and will allow you to create an account and start accepting payments right away. However, your account may be subject to review. If you are selling products/services from one of Stripe's restricted businesses, then your account may be removed/disabled. It is very important to review this before completing this integration.

Note: Stripe is available for merchants in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, Switzerland, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Finland, France, United Kingdom, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Singapore, Slovenia, Slovakia, and the United States.

SCA Compliance

SCA enables 3DS 2.0 so European Merchants can be compliant with the SCA directive.

Braintree can take between 7-10 business days to approve your account.

To use MiGS, you will need to change the payment method from a single sale transaction, to the authorize/capture payment method.

Connecting your Payment Gateway to Subscriptions V1

Setting up the payment gateway within Bold Subscriptions V1 is slightly different depending on which Gateway you select. 

 Walkthrough!

To connect your desired payment gateway, please follow these steps:

 

Stripe

  1. From within Bold Subscriptions V1, select Settings.
  2. Select Payment Gateway.
  3. Beside Stripeselect Connect.
  4. Log in to your Stripe account by entering your username/email and password.

    Note: If you are already logged in to your Stripe account, you will not need to log in again. You will just be required to authenticate the access for Bold Subscriptions V1. You can also sign up for a new Stripe account here.


Braintree and other payment gateways

  1. From within Bold Subscriptions V1, select Settings.
  2. Select Payment Gateway.
  3. Select Connect to Braintree or Connect to an alternate payment gateway.
  4. Select Update Credit Card.
  5. Select Add Card, then enter your credit card details.
  6. Select Update.
  7. Enter your payment gateway details.

    Note: This information can be found within your payment gateway admin. If you need any assistance, please reach out to the support team for your payment gateway.

Once this is set up, we highly recommend processing a test order through Subscriptions V1 with a real credit card to ensure everything is set up correctly.

 


 

FAQs

At this time, the ability to offer Paypal or Wallet Pay through the Subscriptions V1 checkout is unavailable unless paired with a grandfathered plan of the Bold Cashier app.

With Bold Cashier, Paypal is only able to be accepted in the checkout while connected to the Braintree payment gateway and Wallet Pay is only able to be accepted when connected to Stripe.

 Alert

At this time, Bold Cashier is unavailable for installation via Shopify. This is due to the re-evaluations and restrictions created on payments being processed by third-party checkouts on their platform. If your store has installed our Bold Cashier app prior to January 20th, 2020 - you will be able to continue using this app as it is grandfathered on your store.

Currently, all payment gateways that are able to be used within Bold Subscriptions V1 are listed above. If you are looking to request an integration with a payment gateway not listed, please connect with our Partners Team to inquire if the integration could be built into your store.

The payment gateway that is connected to Bold Subscriptions will contain a specific token for each of the subscription customers on your store. This token is used to allow the payment gateway to safely and securely charge your customers on a reoccurring basis for their orders.

If you are planning to change your payment gateway, those specific customer tokens will have to be migrated to the new payment gateway.

 Alert

Changing the payment gateway can be a complex process that requires Bold to manage your customer data. Before making any changes adjustments to your payment gateway connected to Bold Subscriptions V1, please contact our Merchant Success team for more information.

If adjustments are made to your payment gateway without notifying Bold to guide you through the process, it could result in orders failing. To change the email associated to your payment gateway, please log in and adjust this information via your account settings.

Yes, you are able to change the bank account that is linked to your payment processor. This change will not affect how subscriptions works, and you will not have to make any adjustments within the Bold Subscription app specifically.
