Bold Upsell integrates with some of the other Bold apps that is available on Shopify. While some of the app integrations require a setting to be enabled, there are a few integrations that only work with Upsell while those apps are set in a particular way.
Select an accordion to view more information about the integration below:
Bold Brain - when integrated with Upsell - gives you the ability to make "smart offers" based on your store's purchase information. Brain analyzes all of your site's orders to create ideas for offers that it believes will perform well on your storefront. The app looks for products that your customers have consistently purchased together over the last 90 days.
You'll be able to look at these offers and decide if you'd like to automatically activate them on your storefront.
To set up these offers on your store, please follow these steps:
In Bold Brain, select Insights.
Under "Filter insights by", select Cross-Sell Insights.
Note: If your store does not contain enough purchase information, Brain will not have any insights for offers to create. Visit How does Bold Brain work? for more information.
Hover over your desired offer and select Take Action.
Select Take Action.
Upsell can work alongside Bold Bundles on the same store, however, both apps do not have an official integration with each other and may have some conflicts between each other while using both apps together on your store.
When a bundle widget exists on a product page, the customer will need to select the Add to Cart button in the bundle widget on the product page in order for all of the products in the bundle to add into the cart:
The bundle's Add to Cart button will not trigger the Upsell pop-up modal, only the Add to Cart button on the product page outside of the bundle widget can trigger the Upsell pop-up modal:
Combo products can be included as offer products in both upsell and cross-sell offers only for Add to Cart offers. When a combo product is accepted either in a cross-sell or upsell group, the products that make up the combo product in Bundles will be added along with the trigger product, or replace the trigger product.
Note: If Bundles and Upsell are both used on the same store for the same products, it would be best to only use Add to Cart offers on products that are also tied to bundle groups. If a combo product is used as an offer product in a Before Checkout offer, the combo product will not be replaced with the products that make up the combo product and in result, will lead to inventory issues on your store.
This gives you the flexibility to offer a product to your customers in the checkout area, after their order information has been provided. The customer can then accept the item without having to re-enter their payment information.
The timer also allows you to set a sense of urgency on the offer. You can set the timer between one and five minutes.
For steps on integrating Upsell and Cashier, please follow these steps:
From the homepage of Cashier, select Marketplace.
Select Enable beside "Product Upsell".
After the two apps have been enabled, you can start creating after checkout offers in Upsell.
For more information in regards to how each discount method in Custom Pricing integrates with Upsell, please see the following below:
Variant Dependant Method (Version 1)
If a hidden variant created in Custom Pricing is used as an upsell offer, the hidden customer pricing variants will not show for a regular customer. However, if a regular version of a variant is selected to be upsold that has a customer pricing version as well, the custom pricing version will not show if someone eligible for it triggers the upsell.
In order for a customer pricing variant to show, it should be selected as the upsell item instead of the entire product (or regular variant). If you don't want a regular customer to have access to that variant, set the trigger product as a custom pricing variant that only a tagged customer would have access to.
Draft Orders Method (Version 2)
Products that are being discounted in Custom Pricing in this discount method will always show the full price in the Bold Upsell modal for eligible customers and regular customers.
If an eligible customer adds a product that is being discounted in Custom Pricing to the cart or into the checkout from the Upsell modal, the product will have the appropriate discounts on the cart page and the checkout page.
Accelerated Method (Version 3)
Discounts created in Custom Pricing will reflect in the pop-up Upsell modal if an eligible customer is logged in prior to either adding a trigger product to the cart on the product page or selecting the checkout button on the cart page if a trigger product is added into the cart.
This offer type can only be created using Bold Discounts V1. The latest version of Discounts does not create duplicate product versions. Visit Create/Edit/Delete a Bundle for more information on how to create these offer types using Bold Bundles.
Bold Discounts (V1) integrates with Upsell to provide you with the ability to create 'Buy One, Get One' (BOGO) offers on your site.
Discounts' duplicate & hide functionality creates hidden, duplicate versions of your store's products that can be offered through Upsell when certain conditions are met. Discounts does this to ensure that these items are not purchasable on their own, and that the customer must qualify for the discounted item(s) first.
Upsell then allows you to set the conditions for when this product will be offered. You can have the hidden discounted item(s) display when a specific product is added to the cart, when the customer is checking out with certain items, or when the customer's cart is within a defined price range.
Both Bold Discounts V1 and Bold Upsell must be installed on the same store prior to the setup steps below. Both apps can be installed through the following links below:
Note: After installing Bold Discounts, the app will be set to Version 2 automatically which at this time, does not have the duplicate and hide functionality. After Bold Discounts has been installed, please reach out to our Merchant Success Team for assistance with changing to Version 1 of Bold Discounts.
With both apps installed and the duplicate and hide steps completed, please follow these steps to set up a BOGO offer:
Step 1: Create the Discounted Product
- From within your Discounts app, select Current Discounts.
- Select Create Discount.
- Enter a Discount Name (i.e. T-shirt BOGO).
- Enter a Discount Amount (% discount for the product that is being offered).
- Select % next to the "Discount Amount".
- Select Select Products.
Select Add next to each of the products you would like to discount.
Note: You can also filter by collection, vendor, and product type. To put your entire store on sale, select Select All Results here instead of Add.
- Select Continue with selected products.
- Leave Enable Date Range deselected.
- Leave Override cents deselected.
- Under "Duplicate & Hide" select Create a hidden duplicate (Liquid update required).
- Select Create.
Select the Toggle to enable the offer.
Note: The toggle will be green when the offer is enabled.
- Select OK.
Wait for the discount process to complete and continue to these next steps:
Step 2: Verify the Discounted Products
- From Shopify's admin, select Products.
- Enter the Product Name (of a product you selected in Step 1) in the "Search Bar".
You should see two products here:
...one at the regular price:
...and one at the discounted price:
At this point, you can then continue to these next steps:
Step 3: Create the Cross-Sell Offer
- From within your Upsell app, select Offers, then Create Offer.
- Enter a name for your offer.
Note: This is an internal name for your own reference.
- Select Set A Trigger.
- Select the trigger type.
Note: "Add to cart" is the recommended method.
- Select Cross-sell.
- Choose Select Products.
- Select Add next to the product you would like to trigger the offer.
Note: You can also filter by collection, vendor, and product type. Deselecting the "Group variants by products" option and selecting search will allow you to choose individual variants to use in your offers.
- Select Continue with selected products.
- Select Set An Offer.
- Enter an offer title.
- Enter an offer description.
- Choose Select Products.
- Select Add next to the discounted product.
Note: Here you will need to find the product that has the discounted price associated with it. If you are unable to find it with the search feature, you will need to page through the products using the numbers at the bottom to find the product. If it doesn't appear, select "Update Now" in the top-right corner. Close the product selector window and try again in a few minutes.
- Select Continue with selected products.
- Select the additional offer options (optional).
Note: If you're running a true BOGO offer, we recommend leaving these options unselected.
- Select Set Date Range (optional).
- Enter a Start Date and End Date (optional).
- Select Set Cart Price (optional).
- Enter a Min cart total and Max cart total (optional).
- Enable the Automatically remove items from the cart if the trigger or conditions are unmet option.
Note: This option will only work if you're using discounted products created through Bold Discounts V1. The other options in this section are optional.
- Select Save Offer.
Lastly, you'll need to test and ensure the offer is working on the storefront by following these steps:
Step 4: Test the Offer
- Select View storefront.
- Select the trigger product.
- Select Add to Cart.
- Add the upsell offer to your cart.
- Remove the trigger product from your cart.
Did the discounted product also get removed from your cart? If not, please contact our Merchant Success team and we'll be happy to help.
Discount groups that are created in Bold Discounts - Version 2 by default will be reflected on all pages of your store.
If a product is added into a live upsell or cross-sell offer created in Upsell and also is added into a live discount group in Discounts, the offer product will show the discounted price as well in the upsell pop-up modal.
Note: Discount groups that are created in Discounts cannot be set to only apply the discount in the Upsell pop-up modal. Once a discount group is enabled in Discounts, the offer product's price will also be discounted and eligible for all customers to receive on the product page, home page, search pages, etc.
When offer products are added from the upsell pop-up modal either from the product page or on the cart page by a customer while logged in with an active loyalty points account, the customer will earn points for the products that are added from the upsell modal.
Bold Multi-Currency integrates with Upsell by changing the offer product(s) price in the upsell pop-up modal to the currency that is either geolocated automatically or selected by the customer before the upsell pop-up modal is triggered by the customer.
There isn't a setting that needs to be enabled to allow the prices in the upsell modal to convert to different currencies. The currency will change in the upsell pop-up modal once both apps have been installed in the theme liquid code.
Upsell has an official integration to allow options created in Bold Product Options to appear within the upsell pop-up modal. This integration allows customers to select options that are either required or optional for the offer products.
If a product is selected as an offer product in a cross-sell or upsell offer in Upsell, a customize button will be present in the upsell pop-up modal that customers can use to customize the options for the offer product.
Please see the following examples below to see how the customize button and the options will appear within the upsell pop-up modal:
Once options have been created in Product Options and have been added to a trigger product, the options will automatically appear in the Upsell pop-up modal once the upsell or cross-sell group that the trigger product has been assigned to has been enabled in Upsell.
If conditional logic exists for an offer product in the Product Options app, the conditional logic will also be implemented in the Upsell pop-up modal in the customize option page (please see the following example above).
Note: If you're using the Product Options to include options for text fields, file uploads, conditional logic etc., it may be too much to display in the upsell offer window.
If you would like the custom options to be selected before a customer can add the product to the cart, please follow these steps:
From the homepage of Upsell, select Settings, then Upsell Settings.
Under "General Settings" in the "Upsell products that have custom options (Product Options)" area, enter the Button text to redirect to the product page.
Select the Click here if you require your custom Product Options to be selected before a customer can add a product to cart checkbox.
Upsell and Bold Returns does not have an official integration at this time. Both apps work independently from each other and can be used without any interference.
Upsell and Sales Motivator are commonly used to promote each other. For example, a goal can be created in Sales Motivator to promote a 50%-off product if customers meet a cart total of over $100. Using Upsell, you can create a Before Checkout offer with a minimum cart total of $100 and set the 50%-off product as the offer product.
Upsell and Bold Subscriptions are compatible as long as your Subscriptions style is set to "Multiple Products" or "Recurring Cart". This allows you to trigger upsell or cross-sell offers when someone adds a subscription to their cart, or goes to checkout from the site.
Upsell is not able to offer subscription items as upsell/cross-sell products. The subscription information does not get passed to the cart correctly when they are used as the offered item.
Upsell doesn't work with "Single Product" style because the customer never actually enters the cart page, which is where the upsell or cross-sell is offered. With "Single Product" style, the customer is taken directly to the subscription checkout.
