By default, Bold Subscriptions V1 uses Shopify's shipping zones to calculate your customer's shipping costs, but this setting can be customized. You can choose to use the shipping zones set up in the Shopify admin, or you can use Bold Subscriptions' fixed shipping rates.
To view the differences between using Shopify's shipping zones and Bold Subscriptions' fixed shipping rates, please see below.
This article is relevant to Subscriptions V1. If you have Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout on your store, please visit Shipping Rates in Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout. If you are unsure of which version of Bold Subscriptions you have, please visit Identify Your Version of Bold Subscriptions.
Bold Subscriptions V1 gives you the option to use Shopify tax rates for your customer's subscription purchases, which allows you to set both customer- and product-specific taxes on your store.
Using Shopify taxes ensures that there's consistency throughout your orders, and that the rates being applied to your products are pulled from your settings that are already created on your store.
You can find the option to set fixed shipping rates within the Bold Subscriptions admin under Settings > General.
When using Bold Subscriptions' fixed shipping rates, the shipping zones and rates set up in the Shopify admin will not be used for your customer's subscription purchases. Instead, when fixed shipping rates are enabled, your customers will only be able to select and use the fixed shipping rates that are set up inside of the Subscriptions admin.
Each fixed shipping rate will create 1 standard shipping rate amount per country.
Example
If you wanted all local shipping to be $5.00, you can create that here. This will create 1 fixed rate for the whole order, whether your customer orders one item or ten items.
This shipping method is best used for stores that sell non-physical items, or if you have a fixed inventory selection such as subscription boxes. If your customers need to make changes to their product quantities or add new items, fixed shipping rates may not be the best option for your store.
If your store is currently using the Single Product cart mode, you can offer a fixed shipping rate for a set cost of single product orders.
If you enter 0 for the fixed shipping rate, this will provide your customers with free shipping on all of their subscription orders for that country.
Please visit Fixed Shipping Rates in Subscriptions for more information on fixed shipping rates.
You can manage your shipping zones and rates within the Shopify admin under Settings > Shipping and Delivery > Manage Rates.
If Bold Subscriptions' fixed shipping rates are not being used, the app will default to using the shipping zones and rates you have set up in the Shopify admin. This will calculate the same shipping rates for your subscriptions as your regular product purchases.
When your customers enter their address for their subscriptions order in the recurring checkout, the checkout will prompt them to select a shipping rate that's pulled from the Shopify admin.
This is beneficial for stores that offer flexibility for their subscriptions orders, like allowing your customers to add / remove items or adjust the quantities of their items.
Please see Shopify Shipping Rates for more information on Shopify shipping rates.
