Cart Modes in Bold Subscriptions V1

  • Updated

Bold Subscriptions V1 allows you to choose between three different cart modes for a more customized checkout experience.

These cart modes define how your customers reach the checkout page when making a purchase. They can either go directly to the checkout page, or be able to continue shopping after adding a subscription product to their cart.

The most popular cart modes are Single Product and Multiple Products.

It is important to note that you will lose your subscription groups when switching from the Recurring Cart mode over to the Single / Multiple Products cart modes. Your subscription groups will need to be recreated in order to be compatible with the Recurring Cart mode.

Changing cart modes also process faster if you bust the cache from within Bold Subscriptions V1.

This article is relevant to Subscriptions V1. If you have Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout on your store, please visit Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout Overview. If you are unsure of which version of Bold Subscriptions you have, please visit Identify Your Version of Bold Subscriptions.

Cart Modes

Our most popular cart mode is the Multiple Products cart mode. This cart mode allows your customers to purchase both one-time and subscription items in the same cart.

The option to subscribe to your products will appear on the product page in the form of a widget. Once your customers have chosen their preferred subscription interval length and add a subscription to their cart, they will be able to continue shopping.

Multiple Products is similar to the Single Product cart mode - the main difference being when a customer chooses to purchase a subscription. With the Multiple Products cart mode, the product is added to their cart so they can continue shopping. Then, the customer can either add more recurring products (at different intervals) or one-time products, then purchase the entire cart in a single transaction.

If your store offers both subscription and one-time purchase products, we recommend using the Multiple Product cart mode. This cart mode ensures that your customers can add multiple items to their cart without needing to purchase each item individually.

Our Single Product mode is similar to the Multiple Products cart mode, but with one exception: upon selecting the Complete Subscription option on the product page, your customer will be taken directly to the checkout without the ability to continue shopping.

When your customers find a product they like, there will be a subscription widget on the product page that allows them to select their preferred recurring interval (weekly, monthly, etc). Once this is selected, your customer will be taken straight to the checkout page of your store.

This is similar to the Buy Button feature that you may see on other stores such as Amazon, but instead would apply to all of your products.

With the Recurring Cart mode, customers can subscribe to any and every product in your store. This places the subscription widget on the Shopify cart page instead of displaying it on your product pages.

This cart mode allows your customers to build a shopping cart with multiple products, then be able to select whether or not they want to subscribe to their cart of products.

It is important to keep in mind that your customers will be required to subscribe to every item in their cart. Customers will not be able to subscribe to individual products when using the Recurring Cart mode.

The Recurring Cart mode is most popular for stores where all of its products are being offered as a subscription, such as local delivery or grocery services.
