This feature allows you to enforce a minimum amount of successfully processed subscription orders before a customer can freely cancel or edit their subscription.
This feature can be used with the following subscription types:
And the following cart modes:
- Single Product
- Multiple Products
Minimum order fulfillments are not compatible with the Recurring Cart mode.
Please note that this article only relates to Version 1 of Bold Subscriptions. If you have Version 2 of Bold Subscriptions installed on your store, please visit Subscriptions V2 Overview.

If a customer subscribes to a product with a minimum order fulfillment, the customer will not be able to cancel or edit their order from the Manage Subscription Page until that minimum value is reached, including the initial order.
The notice in the screenshot below will appear for both the staff on your store as well as the customer. A small indicator will appear on the customer's subscription to notify them that they're unable to cancel their subscription.
You can adjust this text inside of the Bold Subscriptions V1 app admin under Settings > Language Settings.
As the store owner, you have the freedom to cancel a customer's subscription at any time.
Once the customer has reached the minimum order fulfillment's goal value, your customer will be able to cancel the subscription themselves.
If you would like to remove the minimum order restriction from your customer's subscription, please view those instructions below.
Minimum order fulfillment is recommended for unique subscription models where enforcing a minimum order value is a necessity. It is not recommended to apply this feature to a large amount of inventory or your entire store.
Having a minimum order fulfillment model is not common, so outlining this feature as much as possible is important. This feature is most often seen with products that offer subscriber-only discounted shipping, payment plan subscription models, and promotional subscription models (IE. "Receive your first 2 orders FREE when you sign up for 12 months!").
Applying this across multiple subscription products in one store may limit the ease of use that your subscribers have when managing their products between orders, like adding new subscription products.
- From the Shopify admin, select Apps.
- Select Bold Subscriptions.
- Select Subscriptions, then Customers.
- Find the customer you would like to adjust, then select Edit.
- Select the blue exclamation point icon.
- Select the checkbox under Remove.
- Select Remove selected transformations.
Until your customer meets the minimum order fulfillment, they will not be able to add products into their subscription. They will still have the ability to skip upcoming orders, but skipped orders will not apply to the minimum fulfillment value.
If a customer subscribes to multiple products that each have different minimum order values, then the subscription will take the highest enforced value.
Your customer subscribes to 2 products: 1 with three minimum orders, and another with six minimum orders. This customer will not be able to cancel until six orders have been successfully processed.
When using this feature, we recommend that you create and add your own Terms & Conditions into the recurring checkout. This helps inform customers about your subscriptions, as it is your responsibility to educate customers on how your subscriptions behave.
You may want to consider adding this information into your Shopify product pages as well.
It is important to understand the legal considerations within your country before launching a subscription model that has a minimum fulfillment configuration.
With how Bold Subscriptions V1 was built, it does not indicate when a customer is purchasing a subscription product with a minimum order fulfillment.
If you notice that your customers are unaware of the minimum order fulfillment requirement, you may want to change the placement of this text. Through minor customization, it's possible to insert a modal (popup) window that prompts the customer to agree to the conditions when adding the product to their cart.
