Bold Checkout allows you to create a variety of different shipping rates: price-based rates, weight-based rates, and even custom carrier shipping rates.

Price-based rates

Price-based shipping rates are ideal for offering shipping discounts to customers who spend more. You can even offer free shipping as a purchase incentive to those who spend a certain amount.

To create price-based rates, please follow the steps below.

  1. From within Bold Checkout, navigate to Shipping > Shipping Zones.
  2. Click Create Zone.
  3. Enter a zone name and select your countries.
  4. Under Price-based rates, select Add Rate.
  5. Adjust your rate settings accordingly.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Optional: Repeat steps 4-6 to add another shipping rate for additional price ranges.
  8. Click Save.

Weight-based rates

Weight-based shipping rates are ideal for products that vary in weight.

Bold Checkout uses kilograms (kgs) for weight-based shipping rates. Please ensure your product weights are in kilograms before adding weight-based rates.

To create weight-based rates, please follow the steps below.

  1. From within Bold Checkout, navigate to Shipping > Shipping Zones.
  2. Click Create Zone.
  3. Enter a zone name and select your countries.
  4. Under Weight-based rates, select Add Rate.
  5. Adjust your rate settings accordingly.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Optional: Repeat steps 4-6 to add another shipping rate for additional weight ranges.
  8. Click Save.

Carrier-calculated rates

Bold Checkout integrates with Canada Post, USPS, FedEX, and UPS. When using any of these supported carriers, all the available rates for that carrier will be available in the checkout for your customers.

Alert: Shipping carriers use an order's weight to calculate shipping rates. It is important to make sure your products have weights before setting up carrier-calculated weights.

To use carrier-calculated rates, please follow the steps below.

  1. From within Bold Checkout, navigate to Shipping > Shipping Zones.
  2. Click Create Zone.
  3. Enter a zone name and select your countries.
  4. Scroll down to Carrier-calculated rates.
  5. Select your desired carrier from the dropdown menu.
  6. Optional: Under Charge an additional fee, select Flat Fee or Percentage of total order cost and enter your desired amount.
  7. Click Add.

Custom carrier rates

If you have an account with any of the supported shipping carriers in Bold Checkout (Canada Post, USPS, FedEX, UPS) you can connect your account in Cashier to offer your own custom rates.

To connect your custom carrier rates, please follow the steps below.

Alert: UPS is moving away from API access key authentication in favor of OAuth 2.0 security model. You'll need to enter the Bold callback URL in your UPS account in order to connect your custom rates in Bold Checkout. If you are connecting to UPS for custom carrier rates, please visit Connect to UPS for Custom Carrier Rates for step-by-step instructions.

  1. From within Bold Checkout, navigate to Shipping > Custom Carriers.
  2. Click Setup custom carrier.
  3. Name your credential set and select your provider.

Note: Give this a unique name to help you distinguish from the standard carrier name. You will need to differentiate it from the standard carrier name when selecting it in your shipping zones.

  4. Fill out the credentials.

Note: These credentials can be found within your account with this provider.

  5. Click Save.
  6. To add these rates to your shipping zone, follow the steps under Carrier-calculated rates above. You'll select the custom carrier name that you created in step #3

Troubleshooting

Gaps in shipping rate ranges

When using price-based and weight-based shipping rates, Bold Checkout treats the higher number in the range as non-inclusive, which means that the higher number is not included in the range.

Example 1

The following example is incorrect.

Name Lower limit Higher limit Price
Shipping Rate 1 0kg 10kg $10.00
Shipping Rate 2 10.01kg 20kg $15.00

This example is incorrect because the higher limit is non-inclusive. If an order has a weight of 10kg, there won't be an applicable shipping rate for the order.

Example 2

The following example is correct.

Name Lower limit Higher limit Price
Shipping Rate 1 0kg 10kg $10.00
Shipping Rate 2 10kg 20kg $15.00

This example shows that the higher limit of Shipping Rate 1 is the same as the lower limit of Shipping Rate 2. This means that there are no gaps in the shipping rates.
