Payment Overview in Bold Checkout

Bold Checkout offers a wide variety of payment methods for capturing your customer's payments.

This article is relevant to Bold Checkout on BigCommerce. Please visit the articles relevant for Shopify or commercetools.

Bold Checkout charges your transaction fees monthly.

  1. Within the Checkout admin, navigate to Account > Stored Credit Card.
  2. Select the pencil icon to edit your credit card.
  3. Enter your credit card information.
  4. Select Save.

Bold Checkout allows you to wait before capturing your customer's payments.

Enabling Delayed Payment Capture authorizes your customer's credit cards once they've completed their order. Once completed, you (the store owner) will then need to manually fulfill and capture the order's payment. To enable this feature, open Bold Checkout and navigate to Settings > General Settings. Payment authorizations may expire after a certain amount of time. Once expired, you will not be able to capture the customer's payment.

While we support delayed payment capture, we do not have the ability to send out a confirmation email as a status update for taking the delayed payment at this time.

We recommend contacting your payment gateway for more information on how long payments have until they expire.

Because Bold Checkout connected to a third party payment gateway, the payment method can remember your customer's credit cards. This will only save your customer's information if they consent to it during their purchase in the checkout.

If you're looking to completely delete a payment gateway from Bold Checkout, you will also need to delete all of the associated customer information.

  1. From the BigComemrce admin, select Apps.
  2. Select Bold Checkout, then Customers.
  3. Select the Delete All next to the customers card who you would like to delete, then select OK.

Because Bold Checkout uses third party payment gateways to process your customer's payments, refunds will need to be processed differently.

With Bold Checkout, refunds need to be processed directly via the Bold Checkout app.

Please visit Refund an Order in Bold Checkout for more information.

Because Bold Checkout uses its own checkout, gift cards are not an accepted payment method.

To ensure that your customers still have access to gift cards, you can create them directly through Bold Checkout.

Please visit Using Gift Cards with Bold Checkout for more information.

Bold Checkout integrates with many third party payment gateways so you can find the exact one that suits you and your business needs.

Please visit Connecting a Payment Gateway to Bold Checkout for more information.

Strong Customer Authentication FAQs

Regulations that have come into effect in Europe as of September 14th, 2019 require some merchants to use Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) for online transactions.

Strong Customer Authentication is a requirement included in the Second Payment Services Directive (PDS2), which is a new European regulatory requirement.

This implementation will be delayed for several countries. Please visit Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) Enforcement Date (links to Stripe) for more information on when and where this will be implemented.

If all the following are true, Strong Customer Authentication regulations will apply to your business:

If your business uses a bank account in the European Economic Area (EEA). This includes all countries in the European Union plus Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.

You sell to customers with bank accounts in the European Economic Area.

You accept payments from credit or debit cards.

Strong Customer Authentication must be used for any transactions that involves money moving between bank accounts within the European Economic Area.

Your payment gateway provider may require that you enable Strong Customer Authentication on our end. Please contact your respective gateway provider for more information on how to enable this if necessary.Bold will be working with a few payment gateway providers to implement Strong Customer Authentication automatically. Once implemented, this will prompt customers for additional authentication if required.

Please contact our Merchant Success Team if you are affected by Strong Customer Authentication, and are using a payment gateway that has not had this implemented yet.

If the Strong Customer Authentication requirements apply to you, your customers may need to authorize their payments. Your customer's bank will determine how this will be completed.

Please contact our Merchant Success team if you have any further questions regarding this implementation.
