Language Settings in Bold Cashier

Bold Cashier offers full flexibility of changing the language settings in the checkout page. By default, Bold Cashier's language is set to English, however, you can offer as many language options within the app.

Not only does Bold Cashier allow you to import languages into the app, you can also change the verbiage of almost all of the buttons and text within the checkout page.

You can set the default language, customize the languages, offer multiple language selections, and create your own languages.

Each language that is added into Bold Cashier will appear in the language dropdown field within Bold Cashier that each of your customers will see and be able to freely select within the dropdown menu:

Language Dropdown in Bold Cashier

This help article will go over how to import languages, create languages, edit an existing language, change the default language, as well as go over some customizations and limitations of the language feature within Bold Cashier.

While in the Bold Cashier app, navigate to Settings > Language Settings.

Import a Language

When Bold Cashier is first installed on your store, the default and only language that is present in the app is English.

If your store runs in a different language or has multiple languages available to choose from, you can import as many different languages into Bold Cashier as you need.

To import a language into Bold Cashier, select Import Languages, select a language in the dropdown menu and select Translate and Import

After a language has been imported, the language will be available in the Bold Cashier language dropdown for all customers.

Create a New Language

If a language is not available in the import list, a language can be manually added from scratch within Bold Cashier.

To create a language in Bold Cashier, select Create a Language near the bottom of the Language Settings page. After this has been selected, enter a name for the language you are creating, then fill out each section starting with Confirmation Page.

Once each section has been filled in, select Save either at the top or the bottom of the page.

Once a language has been saved, the language will be available to choose from your customers in the Bold Cashier language dropdown selector.

Edit an Existing Language

If you would like to edit the verbiage that is shown on the Bold Cashier checkout for a particular language, you can make changes to almost all of the text that is present in the Bold Cashier checkout.

To edit an existing language in Bold Cashier, select the Pencil icon next to the language in question under Language Settings. You will be brought to the Customize Language page where you can edit each section, similar to creating a new language.

If you make a mistake while editing a language and would like to revert all changes back to the original, you can select Reset All at the top of the page to reset the changes back to the default settings.

Change the Default Language

When a customer proceeds into the Bold Cashier checkout page, the default language that is set within Bold Cashier will be used in the checkout page.

Since Bold Cashier doesn't have a geolocation feature to dynamically switch the language based on a customer's IP Address, the default language is used for any customer that enters into the checkout page.

It's recommended to set the default language either the same as your store's default currency, or a language from a region that most commonly views your store. For example, let's say your default language of your store is English, but you have more users that view your store from Italy. Setting the default language to Italian may help with more successful conversion rates on your store.

To change the default language in Bold Cashier, select the language in the dropdown bar located under

Please note that it is not possible to turn off a particular language if the language in question is set as the default language. If you would like to turn off a default language, you must select a different default language first before the language in question can be turned off.

This customization requires advanced JavaScript knowledge. Please contact your theme developer if you do not feel comfortable with this code.

Set a Different Default Language on Checkout Load

You can set the default language that shows up at the checkout dynamically, by including a JavaScript variable (BOLD.checkout.languageIsoCode) on the cart page.

To do this, copy and paste the following code and add it to the bottom of your cart.liquid or cart-template.liquid file:

BOLD.checkout.languageIsoCode = "mk";
//Adding this to the cart page will make the default language Macedonian when entering Cashier's checkout.

This can be changed to use conditional logic to set the language ISO code to change depending on different factors, as long as the language ISO code being set is the 2 character ISO code (known as ISO 639-1 Code).

Please visit List of ISO 639-1 Codes (links to Wikipedia) for more information on the list of ISO codes available.

There are a couple of limitations with the Language Settings functionality with Bold Cashier:

  • Both Latin and non-Latin languages are supported. However, the Country and Province/State names will not be translated.
  • The layout of the address fields will not be changed if you switch to a language that has a different address format.

Next Steps:

  • Your checkout flow and display should be customized to match your store's styling. Visit Display Styling in Bold Cashier for more information on styling Bold Cashier.
