To install Bold Subscriptions on your Shopify store, please follow the steps below.

  1. Navigate to Bold Subscriptions on the Shopify app store.
  2. If it prompts you, enter your .myshopify.com URL.
  3. Accept the App Permissions, then select Install App.
  4. Select Start Free Trial to approve the future monthly charges.

Note: If you have previously installed the app, you will be prompted to pay the first month's fee right away.

  5. Read through and accept the terms and conditions.

Bold Subscriptions requires that Liquid code be added to your Shopify theme in order to function properly. This includes making sure the widget appears on your product pages, and that orders complete properly. Once this install is complete, you will be ready to configure your subscriptions.

There are four options for completing this installation on your store:

  • Automatic Install - This option will trigger our automatic installer to complete the code changes on your store. You will still be asked to confirm which theme you would like this code to be installed on after selecting this option.
  • Expert Install - This option creates a ticket for our expert installation team to manually add the code. You will be asked to confirm which theme you would like the code installed on.
  • Manual Install - This step will direct you to the installation instructions to complete this installation on a vintage theme. Please note that this is only suggested if you have a strong knowledge of Liquid coding.
  • Manual Install via App Widget Block - This installation is compatible for those using Shopify's Online Store 2.0 themes.

Please visit our Installation Guide for Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout to view step-by-step instructions for each method.

In order for Bold Subscriptions to process subscription transactions on your store, either Shopify PaymentsAuthorize.net or PayPal Express need to be connected and activated in your Shopify store. For more information, please visit Payment Options & Eligibility in Bold Subscriptions.

Bold Subscriptions also uses your Shopify Shipping and Shopify Taxes settings. Please ensure that these are set up as well, before creating a subscription on your store.

Please visit Shopify Payments for steps that you can follow to setup and configure Shopify Payments on your store.

Bold Subscriptions allows you to create subscription groups where you can choose the products you'd like to offer for subscription. Within the subscription group, you can determine the frequency options you'd like to offer (weekly, monthly, etc), and you can even offer a discount for purchasing a subscription.

Please visit Create a Standard Subscription Group in Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout for a detailed walk-through on the functionality and setup.

Once your subscription group has been created, it's best to place a test order for one of your subscription products to make sure everything is working as it should. This also allows you to see everything on your store exactly how your customers will see it.

 Pro-Tip

Shopify Payments allows you to put your store into test mode. This will help you create a test order on your store without having to make a live payment. For more information on putting Shopify Payments in test mode, please visit Shopify's article to activate test mode.

To create an order on your store for testing purposes, please follow these steps:

  1. From your storefront, navigate to a subscription product page.
  2. Choose a subscription frequency, and select Add to Cart.
  3. Complete the checkout through Shopify's Checkout.

Note: If you have test mode enabled on your store, please use the following payment information:
    Card Number: 4242 4242 4242 4242
Choose any name, a future expiration date, and CVV

  4. Within Bold Subscriptions, navigate to Subscriptions.
  5. From here, locate your subscription purchase and view options to manage.
 Caution

Please note that Bold Subscriptions does not interact with fulfillment of your orders such as sending out your products or generating shipping labels. The order fulfillment must be processed the same way that one-time orders are processed on your store.

It's best to review the default subscription settings before launching your subscriptions on your store. This will give you the opportunity to choose your email notifications, determine the actions your customers will have access to in the Customer Portal, and more.

Visit our Edit Settings in Bold Subscriptions for more information on adjusting the in-app settings.

With flexible cancelation management, Bold Subscriptions allows you to determine what your customers see when they attempt to cancel a subscription.

You can display a message to your customers right within the Customer Portal, or present cancellation reasons that your customers can choose from.

Using dunning management, you can determine what to do when your customers transactions fail. Decide how long Bold Subscriptions should wait until it attempts to capture a failed transaction again, how many additional attempts should be made, and what should happen after the failed transaction limit has been met.

For more information, please visit Cancellation & Dunning Management in Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout.

To view information about your future subscription orders, customer activity logs, and more, please visit Dashboard Analytics, Reports & Activity Logs in Subscriptions for Shopify Checkout.
