Bold Discounts has two different versions that can be utilized on any Shopify store. These versions are referred to as Bold Discounts and Powered by Price Rules.

Overview: Bold Discounts runs sales like other online and brick-and-mortar stores by reducing the product price when products go on sale and returning them to regular price when the sale is over. Discounts allows the option to schedule sales to start and end at any time. If a start and end date is applied to a sale, a sale timer can be shown on the product page to show how long the sale will be on for storefront customers. Discounts applies discounts as either a percentage off or a price discount from the regular price. When a discount is activated, only the product prices are changed, the same way as if you manually changed the prices.

Overview: Bold Discounts Powered by Price Rules is a powerful eCommerce app that provides you with the ability to create large-scale sales on your site in seconds without the use of discount codes or changing product prices in your Shopify admin. You can select multiple products or variants, choose the discount amount, and even pick the timeframe for the sale to be active. You're also able to display a sales clock and sales icons to show your customers which items are on sale, and for how much longer. |

Determine your Store's Version
Within the Bold Discounts app, the version information appears at the bottom of the page for both versions that are available for the app. To determine the version your store is currently on for Bold Discounts, please follow the steps below.
- From the Shopify admin, select Apps.
- Select Bold Discounts.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page.

Switching Versions
Depending on which version of Bold Discounts you are currently on and whether you already have the app installed, the steps for switching between Version 1 and Powered by Price Rules varies.
Switch from Bold Discounts to Powered by Price Rules
If you already have Bold Discounts installed and would like to switch from Bold Discounts to Powered by Price Rules, this requires some tweaks from our Customer Success team. Please reach out to our Customer Success team for further assistance with switching from Version 1 to Powered by Price Rules.
Switch from Powered by Price Rules to Bold Discounts
If you already have Bold Discounts Powered by Price Rules installed and would like to switch to Bold Discounts, this can be done by simply uninstalling and reinstalling Bold Discounts on your store. When Bold Discounts is re-installed, Bold Discounts is installed on your store.
The liquid code for Discounts Powered by Price Rules is not removed from your theme after the app is uninstalled. The liquid code needs to be removed manually. Please visit Discounts Code Install Instructions for steps that you can follow to remove the liquid code.
Integrations
Both versions of Bold Discounts have specific integrations with other Bold apps to enable you to offer additional discounts and promotions. To see a brief overview of some of the available integrations, select a heading below.
Bold Discounts & Bold Upsell
Bold Discounts integrates with Bold Upsell to provide you with the ability to create Buy One, Get One (BOGO) offers on your site.
Discounts' duplicate & hide functionality creates hidden, duplicate versions of your store's products that can be offered through Upsell when certain conditions are met. Discounts does this to ensure that these items are not purchasable on their own, and that the customer must qualify for the discounted item(s) first.
Upsell then allows you to set the conditions for when this product will be offered. You can have the hidden discounted item(s) display when a specific product is added to the cart, when the customer is checking out with certain items, or when the customer's cart is within a defined price range.

Discounts Powered by Price Rules & Bold Bundles V3
Bold Discounts Powered by Price Rules and Bold Bundles on Accelerated Method (V3) both use the connection API to apply discounts to products on your storefront, and do not require an additional setting to enable both apps together.
When a product is being discounted across both apps, the highest/best discount is applied to the product on the storefront. For example:
- Product A and Product B is $50.
- Product A is discounted in Discounts and Bundles.
- Discounts offers a 50% discount for both products.
- Bundles offers a $15-off sale for both products when purchased together.
- Product A and Product B would have the rule in Discounts applied, as your customers would receive these items for $25 each instead of $35 each.

Discounts Powered by Price Rules & Bold Custom Pricing V3
Custom Pricing's Accelerated Method (V3) and Bold Discounts Powered by Price Rules both use the connection API to apply discounts to products on your storefront and in result, does not require an additional setting to enable both apps together.
When a product is being discounted across both apps, the highest/best discount is applied to the product on the storefront. For example:
- Product A is $20
- Product A is discounted in Custom Pricing and Discounts
- Custom Pricing offers a 50% discount
- Discounts offers a $15-off sale
- Product A would have the rule in Discounts applied, as your customers would receive this item for $5 instead of $10

Discounts Powered by Price Rules & Bold Cashier
If you have a grandfathered plan of Bold Cashier on your store, Bold Cashier offers a direct integration with Bold Discounts Powered by Price Rules. This integration provides more flexibility of offering dynamic sales to your customers, while also allowing you to use 3rd-party checkout buttons discount codes in the checkout page.

Should I switch to from Bold Discounts to Bold Discounts Powered by Price Rules?
This depends on your business needs. If you think you would benefit from the features that Bold Discounts Powered by Price Rules offers, such as faster discount syncing, preventing stackable discount codes or discounting specific variants, it would be recommended to make the switch.
If you are content with the discounting functionality that Bold Discounts offers, there is no need to switch. If you are offering BOGO type discounts using Bold Discounts and Bold Upsell, or have other apps that use draft order functionality on your store, we recommend keeping Bold Discounts.
