Capturing Payments

Some regions of the world require you to wait until the product is ready to ship before you can capture a customer's payment. This can be done with Bold Checkout on commercetools by enabling delayed payment capture.

Enabling delayed payment capture will only allow authorization of your customer's credit cards once they complete their order. Once the order is completed, you will need to fulfill the order in order to capture the payment. This can be done within the Shopify admin.

To enable delayed payment capture, please follow the steps below.

  1. From within the Bold Checkout admin, navigate to Orders > All Orders.
  2. Select Set up delayed payment capture.
 Alert

Payment authorizations may expire after a certain amount of time. Once expired, you will not be able to capture the payment.

Please reach out to your payment gateway's support team to gather information on how long a payment has until it expires after authorization.

Deleting Specific Stored Credit Card Information

Since Bold Checkout connects to a payment gateway, it is able to remember your customer's credit card information for future purchases. This only saves if your customers opt in during checkout.

If you are looking to delete a payment gateway from Bold Checkout completely, you will need to also delete all the stored payment information for your customers that are associated to that gateway.

To delete a customer's stored credit card information from Bold Checkout, please follow the steps below.

  1. From the WordPress Admin, navigate to Commercetools > Bold
  2. Select Open under Bold Checkout.
  3. Select Customers.
  4. Select the Delete All next to the customers card who you would like to delete, then select OK.

Refunding Orders

Bold Checkout captures your customers' payment directly through the payment gateway.

Because of this, the process of refunding your customer's orders will be different than your standard commercetools orders. Refunds will need to be processed directly via the Bold Checkout admin.

Please visit Refund an Order in Bold Checkout for more information on how to correctly refund your customer's Bold Checkout orders.

Strong Customer Authentication FAQs

European regulations that have come into effect as of September 14th, 2019 require some merchants to use Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) for online transactions.

Strong Customer Authentication is a requirement included in the Second Payment Services Directive (PDS2), which is a new European regulatory requirement.

This implementation will be delayed for several countries.

Please visit Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) Enforcement Date for more information on when and where this will be implemented.

If all of the following is true, Strong Customer Authentication regulations will apply to your business:

  • Your business uses a bank account in the European Economic Area (EEA).
    • This includes all countries in the European Union plus Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.
  • You sell to customers with bank accounts located in the European Economic Area.
  • You accept payments from credit or debit cards.

Strong Customer Authentication must be used for any transaction that involves money moving between bank accounts within the European Economic Area.

Your payment gateway provider may require that you enable Strong Customer Authentication on our end.

Please contact your respective payment gateway provider for more information on how to enable this if necessary.

Bold will be working with a few payment gateway providers to implement Strong Customer Authentication automatically. Once implemented, this will prompt customers for additional authentication if required.

Please contact our merchant success team if you are affected by Strong Customer Authentication and are using a payment gateway that has not had this implemented yet.

If the Strong Customer Authentication requirements apply to you, your customers may need to authorize their payments.

Your customer's bank will determine how this will be completed.

Please contact our merchant success team if you have any further questions regarding this implementation.
