Migrating to Bold Subscriptions V2

Overview

Migrations to Bold Subscriptions V2 on Shopify Checkout are just about ready. Before we are able to migrate you, we need some information to identify whether you are eligible to migrate.

 Alert

It's important to note that Bold Subscriptions V2 is not an upgrade from V1, it's a completely different app. For more information, please visit our Bold Subscriptions V1 & V2 Comparison article. We will continue supporting V1 for the foreseeable future, and will not require merchants to migrate to V2.  For others who want to migrate to V2, our goal is to help with that.

The benefits of migrating to V2 are:

  • You won’t have to manage two different checkouts
  • You’ll be able to take advantage of Shopify Payments’ potentially lower transaction fees for new subscriptions, as well other benefits.
  • You’ll be able to use other apps that rely on the Shopify Checkout.

We want to be clear, however, that some of the functionality supported in V1 is not yet supported in V2. For some of our merchants, these limitations are not critical, and the benefits of the new app far outweigh any downsides. For others, it might be best to wait until more features have been added to V2 before migrating. To learn more about the differences between versions, check out this V1 & V2 Comparison article.
We have a limited capacity for migrations to Bold Subscriptions V2 on Shopify.

It's important to keep in mind, Bold Subscriptions V1 will continue to be supported.  There is no urgency to migrate, nor is there even a requirement to migrate. For some stores, V1 is a better solution right now, for others V2 might be the right choice. So if you are using V1, rest assured you are using a fully supported app that will continue to be supported.

Subscription Types: Build a standard subscription, with the additional ability to create custom recurrence rules (RRULES) coming soon. This is generally used for calendars.

Bold Subscriptions V2 w/ Shopify Checkout - Slightly fewer "out-of-the-box" features (for now, more are coming) but extremely robust APIs, designed to be very customizable and developer friendly. This version was built from the ground up to be the subscription app of choice for any customization possible, or to extend the subscription experience & data anywhere through APIs.
