If your orders are failing to export and you see an error that says “Orders with sales tax require your tax settings to be set up” or “A tax agency needs to be specified in settings”, this means that you have attempted to export an order with a tax rate that has not yet been mapped to a tax agency in QuickBooks Online.
To resolve this error you must map the tax rate to a tax agency in QuickBooks Online. QuickBooks Sync displays all the tax agencies that match the rate on the Settings page. If none are displayed, this means you must create a tax agency for that rate in QuickBooks Online.
Note: If the tax rate was created in error, please speak to our Customer Success team so we can remove the rate for you. To ensure that the tax rate isn’t created in error again, please reach out to Shopify to confirm you have your tax rates set up correctly.
To map a new tax rate to an existing tax agency in QuickBooks Sync, please follow the steps below.
- From the Shopify admin, select Apps, and open QuickBooks Sync.
- Navigate to Settings.
- In the Tax Settings section, find the tax rate that has not been mapped (highlighted in red), and expand the dropdown menu to select a relevant tax agency for the location.
- Click Save.
