Offer Types Overview
Bold Upsell gives you a library of offer types so you can match the right pitch to the right moment in the shopper journey. This article gives a quick tour of every offer type available in the app, where it shows up, and when to use it. Use it as a jumping-off point before creating your first offer.

Two ways to create an offer
Every offer in Bold Upsell falls into one of two buckets:
Smart Offers , AI chooses the products automatically based on what is in the cart and what shoppers buy together.
Manual offers , You choose the trigger products, the offered products, the layout, and the conditions. Use these when you want full control over the pitch.
You can run Smart Offers and manual offers at the same time.
Manual offer types
Below are the manual offer types you can create from the Choose your offer type page, in the order they appear in the app.
Cross-sell / Buy X Get Y
Recommend complementary or "frequently bought together" products. Great for accessories, refills, choice from multiple free gifts or samples, and items that pair naturally with the trigger product.
Where it appears: Product page or cart page
Display: Pop-up or embedded (list or carousel layout)
Available on: All plans
Upsell
Pitch a higher-value or premium alternative to the product the shopper is viewing. Best for tiered products (sizes, quantity, upgraded versions).

Display: Pop-up
Available on: All plans
Post-Purchase (Thank You Page)
Show a one-click offer on the order confirmation page. The customer can accept without re-entering payment, and the item is added to the same order.
Where it appears: Shopify post purchase page
Note: Post-purchase offers require the Bold Upsell post-purchase extension to be enabled in your Shopify checkout. The app will walk you through this the first time you create the offer.
Post-Purchase (Email)
Re-engage shoppers with a follow-up email that links to a special offer after their purchase. Perfect for win-back, replenishment, and "you may also like" prompts.
Where it appears: Customer inbox
Free Gift
Automatically add a gift to the cart when a qualifying product is purchased. This will add a single predetermined gift automatically when the trigger and conditions are met. If you would like to offer a choice of gifts, then please create a cross-sell/Buy X get Y offer and set the discount to free.
Where it appears: Automatically adds to cart
Funnel
Chain multiple offers together so the next pitch depends on whether the previous one was accepted or declined. Ideal for "you might also need…" sequences across product, cart, and post-purchase.

Display: Pop-up or post purchase offer
Checkout Offer
Surface an add-on directly inside Shopify’s checkout flow so shoppers can accept it in one click without leaving checkout.
Where it appears: Shopify checkout (one-page or three-page)
Available on: Shopify Plus plans
Note: Checkout Offers require the Bold Upsell checkout UI extension to be placed in your Shopify checkout editor. Bold Upsell will guide you through placement the first time you create the offer.
Subscription offer types
If you use Bold Subscriptions, you can pitch product offers tailored to your subscribers. All three subscription offer types require Bold Subscriptions to be installed and are available on Standard, Complete, and Enterprise plans.
Subscription Upsell
Promote signing up for a subscription when a shopper is viewing a one-time product. Great for converting one-time buyers into repeat subscribers.

Subscription Customer Portal
Let existing subscribers add complementary products to their next subscription order from inside the subscription customer portal.
Where it appears: Bold Subscriptions customer portal
Display: Embedded carousel
Subscription Email
Add a product offer to the upcoming-order email so subscribers can add items to their next shipment before it ships.
