Create a Subscription Upsell Offer
A Subscription Upsell offer invites customers to upgrade a one-time purchase to a subscription, directly on the product page. When a shopper selects a subscription-eligible product, the offer prompts them to switch to a recurring plan before they add to cart, helping you grow recurring revenue without changing the rest of your storefront.
Before you start
-
Make sure the Bold Upsell app embed is enabled in your theme. See Activate Bold Upsell.
-
Your store must have the Bold Subscriptions app installed and configured.
-
The product you want to promote must already have a subscription plan applied from Bold Subscriptions.
Step 1: Choose Subscription Upsell as the offer type
From the Bold Upsell admin, navigate to Manual Offers, click Create Offer and select Subscription Upsell. This offer type has a preset location (the product page), so you will not need to choose a location.

Step 2: Configure the offer
On the configuration page you will set up everything the shopper sees and how the offer triggers.
Name your offer
Give the offer an internal name so you can identify it later in the Manual offers list. Shoppers will never see this name.
Choose your trigger products
The trigger is the product(s) the shopper must be viewing for the offer to appear.
-
Click Select products.
-
Pick one or more products, specific variants, or an entire collection.
Note: Only select products which have an active subscription group. Only these products with an active subscription will be offered as an upgrade.
-
Click Select.
Optional: Discount settings
-
Discount offer product - apply a percentage or fixed discount to the upsold subscription product as an incentive to accept.
Optional: Add conditions
Conditions control when the Subscription Upsell is eligible to show:
-
Date range - run the offer only between a start and end date (great for launches and seasonal promos).

Step 3: Style the offer
Under Style, configure how products appear inside the pop-up:
-
Carousel - products are displayed side by side in the Subscription Upsell popup modal.
-
List - products stack vertically. This option is best when customers are comparing at a glance.
Write your title and description
This is the headline and supporting copy the shopper sees in the pop-up. You can keep the default copy or write your own. For best results, keep it short, benefit-led, and specific. For example: "Upgrade to a subscription" with a description like "Save 15% by subscribing to this product."
Button Text
Button Text - the call-to-action text on the add button. Defaults vary by offer type (Add to cart, Yes please, Claim my gift). Override it to match your brand voice.
Step 4: Save and publish
Review your settings and click Create Offer. Toggle the offer to Active to make it live on your storefront. You can pause or edit the offer at any time from the Manual Offers page.
