Custom Pricing & Subscriptions

Bold Custom Pricing discounts can be applied to subscription purchases, allowing you to offer wholesale or vip priced subscriptions on your store.

This article provides an overview of using Custom Pricing with different subscriptions apps, including requirements and important integration considerations.

Requirements

To apply Custom Pricing discounts to subscription purchases, you must use:

  • Bold Custom Pricing V2

In addition to applying Custom Pricing to initial and recurring subscription purchases, Bold Subscriptions also supports:

  • Maintaining Custom Pricing price rules when customers modify their subscriptions in the customer portal.

  • Displaying accurate Custom Pricing on the product page and in the subscription widget.

  • Using subscription discounts together with Custom Pricing discounts.

  • Creating VIP Member Pricing programs using Bold Subscriptions' customer tagging feature.

Shopify Subscriptions

Custom Pricing can work with Shopify Subscriptions. When using both apps together, Custom Pricing discounts apply to both initial and recurring subscription orders and the correct Custom Pricing price is displayed on the product page.

Known limitations:

  • The Shopify Subscription widget does not display the Custom Pricing discount.

  • Modifications made to subscriptions (such as swapping products or changing quantities) are not supported and may not reflect correct Custom Pricing discounts.

Third-party subscription apps

Custom Pricing can also work with third-party subscription apps such as reCharge, Skio, Loop, or Seal. When used together, Custom Pricing discounts apply to both initial and recurring subscription purchases.

Known limitations:

  • Third-party subscription widgets do not display the Custom Pricing discount.

  • The correct Custom Pricing price is not displayed on the main price field on the product page, however, this may be possible with a customization. Chat with our Customer Success team for assistance.

  • Modifications made to subscriptions (such as swapping products or changing quantities) are not supported and may not reflect correct Custom Pricing discounts.

Important considerations

Testing your configuration: Shopify and third-party subscription apps can change or vary in their implementation, features, and discounting methods. We recommend thoroughly testing your discount configuration and subscription flow thoroughly before making pricing available to customers.

Shopify discount codes: Shopify discount codes and automatic discounts should not be offered on subscriptions with Custom Pricing discounts. While they can be applied to the initial order, Shopify only allows the greatest discount per product, which may not be the Custom Pricing discount. Additionally, Custom Pricing discounts are not reapplied to existing subscriptions if a discount code expires.
