Shopify Functions for Custom Pricing (Standard Method V2)

Shopify Functions allows Custom Pricing discounts to be applied directly in Shopify’s native checkout, rather than using draft orders. This provides a faster, more reliable checkout experience.

This guide outlines how Shopify Functions work and how to enable or disable the setting.

Functionality

Shopify Functions is an optional setting in Custom Pricing Standard Method (V2).

As of December 16, 2025, all new Custom Pricing installs use V2 with Shopify Functions enabled by default. Existing stores are not automatically migrated.

When enabled, Shopify Functions:

Applies Custom Pricing discounts in Shopify’s native checkout.
Allows Shopify discounts to be applied at checkout.
Lets you choose whether Custom Pricing discounts can combine with Shopify discounts.
Lets you control which purchase types are eligible for Custom Pricing discounts (one-time, subscriptions, or both).

Discount behavior

When Shopify Functions is enabled, Custom Pricing discounts are treated as product discounts in Shopify. Shopify applies its discount rules to determine how Custom Pricing discounts interact with other Shopify discounts.

If multiple discount codes are available, Shopify applies the best eligible discount or discount combination between these and the Custom Pricing discount.

Discount combining

With Shopify Functions, you can allow Custom Pricing product discounts to combine with other Shopify discounts.

Because Custom Pricing discounts are treated as product discounts, how they combine with other Shopify discounts depends on the Shopify discount type:

Product discounts: Only one product discount is applied per item. Shopify applies the highest eligible discount.
Order discounts: Can stack with product discounts.
Shipping discounts: Can stack with product and order discounts.

Discounts combine only when both Custom Pricing and the Shopify discount allow combining. To learn more, please refer to Shopify’s documentation on combining discounts.

Important considerations

When Shopify Functions is enabled, a Bold Custom Pricing discount appears in your Shopify Discount page, alongside other Shopify discounts.

Deactivating or disabling the discount in Shopify will also disable Shopify Functions in Custom Pricing. If Shopify Functions is disabled, Custom Pricing discounts will continue to apply using the draft order checkout.

Setup

Enabling Shopify Functions does not change how pricing rules are configured. Your existing customer tags, quantity breaks, and pricing rules continue to apply as configured.

Enable Shopify Functions

To enable Shopify Functions, please follow the steps below.

In Custom Pricing, navigate to Settings > General.
Scroll to the Shopify Functions section.
Under Purchase Types, select which purchase types are eligible for Custom Pricing discounts.

Optional: Under Shopify Discounts, choose which Shopify discount types Custom Pricing discounts can combine with.

Note: If combining is not allowed, Shopify applies the best eligible discount or discount combination. Read more in Discount combining above.
Click Enable Shopify Functions.

Note: Changes to this setting may take up to one minute to apply on the storefront.
If it’s your first time enabling Shopify Functions, resync your existing Custom Pricing rules by clicking the Global Play / Pause button near the top of the page. Click the Pause All Groups button, wait for the sync to complete, and then click Play All Groups to reactivate them.

Disable Shopify Functions

To disable Shopify Functions, please follow the steps below.

In Custom Pricing, navigate to Settings > General.
Scroll to the Shopify Functions section and click Disable Shopify Functions.

Note: Changes to this setting may take up to one minute to apply on the storefront.
