Bold Subscriptions & Shopify Shop App Compatibility
On June 23, 2025, Shopify announced that customers will be able to view and purchase subscriptions directly in the Shopify Shop app. This means that subscription products offered through Bold Subscriptions will also be available for purchase.
Alert: Shopify’s Shop app is currently untested and not officially supported with Bold Subscriptions. While you may be able to use some or most features, please be aware that unexpected issues may occur.
We recommend proceeding with caution, as we cannot guarantee full functionality or provide support for troubleshooting at this time.
This article outlines known issues with Bold’s subscription widget and Convertible Subscription flow and shows you how to manage your subscription product visibility.
Known issues
Subscription widget limitations
Shopify’s Shop app doesn’t use Bold’s subscription widget. This means that some features may not work as expected, and you won’t be able to style the widget using the app block settings. This also creates a significant issue for Convertible Subscriptions.
Convertible Subscriptions incompatibility
Shopify’s Shop app subscription widget does not use Bold’s convert attribute. As a result, customers will remain subscribed only to the initial product in a Convertible Subscription. This can be particularly problematic if the initial product has a 100% discount, as customers would continue to receive the product for free.
To avoid display issues and incorrect subscriptions, we strongly advise you to either:
Hide products intended for Convertible Subscriptions from Shopify’s Shop app sales channel
Redirect customers to the online store for subscription purchases.
Manage subscription product visibility
Manage your subscription product visibility using the instructions in this section, or follow the instructions on Shopify’s help center for the most up-to-date information.
Hide Convertible Subscriptions from Shopify’s Shop app
To hide Convertible Subscription products from Shopify’s Shop app, follow the steps below.
From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Apps and sales channels.

Click Open sales channel.

Redirect subscription purchases to your online store
You can control whether subscriptions are available directly in the Shopify Shop app. If you disable subscriptions for Shopify's Shop channel, customers will be directed to your online store to complete their subscription purchase.
From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Apps and sales channels.
Click on Shopify’s Shop app.
Click Open sales channel.
Go to Settings.
- In the Subscriptions section, do either of the following:

To turn subscriptions off for the Shop channel, click Disable.
